Today we did something Caleb has been begging to do for a while now. We went to Aquaport. Aquaport is a water park in Maryland Heights. They have a tube slide, a rapids slide, a flume slide, a bowl slide, short racer slides, a lazy river, a little kids activity pool, and a large activity pool. It was very nice there. It was big enough that there was plenty to do, but small enough that I felt comfortable letting the kids go do what they wanted. I spent a lot of time just floating in the lazy river.
We got there about 15 minutes before the opened and there were already a lot of people there. But, there were not so many people that we did not get a good place to park our stuff. We got a place directly under an umbrella, so even though we were there for four hours our chairs were in the shade the whole time. We really enjoyed our day there.
After Michael got home this evening we went to Cracker Barrel for supper. Then, we decided to drive out to the northern part of St. Charles County. We went to see if the shrine in Portage was flooded. Yup, the river is still up pretty high out there, even part of the road (a small part) going to the parking lot to the shrine is under water.
So, then we headed out to the conservation area by the Alton Dam. Of course there's quite a bit of high water out there, too. The road to the dam is flooded. It looks a little strange out there because the water is coming around the dam. It kind of looks like they built half a dam and then just stopped. The road to the confluence of both rivers is flooded, too.
I did get some pretty good sunset pictures. There were toads hopping around everywhere, too. And, I got a good close up of a mayfly. It was a nice evening.
When we left the conservation area we went across the bridge into Alton. We stopped at McDonald's to get drinks and then wandered around Alton's river front for a little while. They have a really nice amphitheater down there now. I hadn't seen it before. I guess it's been a while since we've actually been in Alton.
It was just a very good day all around.
