July 31, 2010

Michaela and I did not sleep well last night. Our electricity went out around 9:15 and did not come back on until around 4:30 this morning. So, we did not go swimming. We went to Caleb's baseball game instead. They won again. That is 5-0 for them.

We cleaned up around the house this afternoon. I did some of my homework for the week. Then, tonight we went out to dinner with my brother and his wife. We went down to the valley to The Old Spaghetti Factory. We've not been there in a long time. It was really good. It was a nice evening. I'm glad we went.

Going to bed without Abby in the room with us is still very hard. I have had a very difficult night. I could not sleep. I'm dealing with some major guilt. I just keep wondering if I did the right thing. And, I'm missing her more than I know how to express.

I wrote an email to Jill telling her how I felt and it actually made me feel a little better. So, I'm hoping now I'll be able to sleep. It's almost midnight, so I'm going to try.

July 30, 2010

The kids and I gathered up all of Abby's things today. It is amazing how many things around the house were hers. It just seems so weird, surreal around here without her. The house seems so quiet and empty. I miss her so much it is physically painful. It is so hard to come home from being out and enter the house with her not being here.

July 29, 2010

It was a very sad day for us today. We had to take Abby to the vet to be put to sleep. She just got really bad. I know she did not sleep well last night. She was breathing so much worse and could not use her leg. The vet checked it when we took her in and said the lymph nodes had gotten considerably bigger just since Monday. She would not eat anything either. It was just horrible. My heart hurt so bad it was burning.

Michael came home from work before 10:00 a.m. His parents came over to watch the kids around 10:45. We left at that time and took her to the vet. She left the house as she came to it when she was a puppy. It was just the three of us (Michael, Abby and me) with Abby on my lap. That's how we brought her home when she was a puppy, 13 years ago.

Michael and I both stayed with her and comforted her while she passed away. It's a very hard thing to do, but it really is the best thing. I was with my Buster cat when he passed and as difficult as it is, it really does bring the most peace. I got to hold Abby's head. The vet even cried. He really cared about her, too.

It has been a rough week and an even rougher day for us around here. Michael's parents were upset, too. I talked to my mom this morning and she cried, too. Abby was very much loved. She is going to be missed terribly.

We took the kids to the pool today so we weren't just all sitting around the house. Michael did not go back to work. He spent the time with us today. He's such an amazing husband and father. It was not easy to come home and not have Abby here. That's really going to be hard to get used to. She's been so much a part of our daily lives that there is a lot of things that are going to be hard to get used to without her.

We are going to miss her so much. She really was an amazing dog.

July 27, 2010

Abby was better today. She did not eat her food, but she wanted her treats. She wants to just carry around her Milk Bones. But, she ate her other treats. At this point I am just trying to make sure she has something in her stomach. She wandered around easily today even though she was still breathing hard. Her eyes were a lot brighter today, too. She even had popcorn with the kids tonight.

We just hung out around home. I did a lot of laundry and the kids rode their bikes some. We did go out to lunch with Michael. He had to go to Highland this morning and he stopped at home on his way to O'Fallon. We had lunch at Culver's.

July 27, 2010

The kids and I did the grocery shopping today.

This afternoon they went up to Null to play on the playground with friends. I did homework and watched over Abby.

Tonight was very rough as Abby started panting and could not stop. It took a while for her to calm down. I hope she sleeps well tonight. I need to sleep, too. I've not slept well since last Thursday.

July 26, 2010

Today was a pretty rough day. We had to take Abby to the vet because she's been breathing pretty hard all weekend. I've not slept well because I've been really worried about her. So, this morning I called the vet and got her an appointment for late morning.

The vet listened to her and decided to do a chest x-ray. Her cancer has moved to her lungs already. There are several lesions on her lungs. There isn't any fluid yet. So, we are losing her even faster than I thought we would.

For now she's at home. We are to watch for signs of her breathing getting worse, not being able to lay on her side, not wanting to eat, a lot of coughing, etc. I have to take her back next Monday to see how she is at that time.

The kids are pretty upset, of course. We cried in the van on the way home. I told them to cry as hard as they could on the way home and then to try to get it dried up. I told them I want them to enjoy her as much as they can while we can.

She is such a wonderful dog. She is everything a family could want in a pet. We all love her completely. We've been very lucky to have her with us for so long. She just is the most loving dog in the world. Michael has always been her favorite, but she adores all of us. She always finds a way to be around each of us during the day. She is definitely most happy when we are all home with her. I love my Abby so much and it's going to hurt really bad when it's time to let her go.

July 25, 2010

Today was a very big day for us. Michaela spent the night with my mom last night and then they all met me at my church this morning for early service. When Michaela and I got home, Michael and Caleb were over at his mom's house to take showers because our electricity was still out. It came back on right before they got home around 9:30 a.m.

At Michael's church Michaela was baptized today. Micheal baptized her. It was very emotional for all of us. I ended up bawling in my mom's arms. It was perfect, though. My side of the family was there, all of Michael's family was there, and some of our friends even made it. It meant so much to me to see so many people there to support Michaela as she took this step.

After church everyone on both sides of the family went out to eat. Michaela wanted Pasta House so that's where we went. There were fourteen of us. It felt really good to have everyone there. I know Michaela loved having everyone together.

This afternoon the kids and I cleaned house. I also did laundry. The kids played outside for a while. Michael's brother, his wife and daughter came over for a little while tonight, too. I had a banner like the one we got for 4th of July for my SIL because she had said she wanted one. She was really surprised. I also let them borrow Mama Mia and my Roswell DVD's. I really think Jenessa will like that show.

We ended up having Blizzards tonight, too. We all had eaten so much at lunch we didn't get very hungry tonight, so that was actually our supper. Not exactly nutritious, but it's not like we do it all the time.

July 24, 2010

It was a busy Saturday. Michaela and I went to the Y for our swim classes this morning. We have to be there by 8:00 a.m. because that's when my class starts. I talked to her teacher some this morning. Michaela has to cut 33 seconds off her time to qualify for the swim team. So, I guess we go try to find time to work on that.

Michael and Caleb were not home when we got home. They left so Michael could get an allergy shot and get the truck washed. He got a 3 month membership to the local car wash for Father's Day so he's been trying to get the truck washed every week.

We had to be up at the park next to the Y for Caleb's baseball game by 12:00. We were a little late, but we got there. It was very hot again today. The poor boys on the baseball field were moving in slow motion it seemed. One of the umps had to sit down because she was starting to feel sick. She didn't look well either. I'm glad that his games are only an hour long at this point, even in the shade it was starting to get unbearable.

This afternoon I took Michaela over to my mom's. She's spending the night over there. They will meet me at my church for early service in the morning.

Michael, Caleb and I went to Steak 'n Shake for supper. I ordered a raspberry shake and got a strawberry one instead. Not a huge deal especially since I didn't figure out why it didn't taste as good as the last raspberry shake I had until I was almost finished and realized the berry I was eating was a strawberry. I figure I didn't have a right to complain since it took me that long to figure out what was wrong.

After we ate, we went to Wal-mart to get a few things. Then, we went to Barnes & Noble to get a Bible cover for Michaela. We're giving her a Quest Study Bible and the cover as a gift for her baptism. I know she'll really like it because she's like me, she loves history and historical stuff and the Quest Study Bible has notes in it about why people did the things they did during biblical times. It also explains some of the social history of biblical times. It's really a cool bible.

It was lightening like crazy out when we were on our way home. Michael just wanted to get home before it started raining so the truck didn't get dirty. About 5 minutes after we got home the storm hit. Horrible winds came out of no where and our electricity went out. It was out all night. The storm cooled off the temperature, but the humidity was sill high so it got sticky and damp in the house.

July 23, 2010

Today we did something Caleb has been begging to do for a while now. We went to Aquaport. Aquaport is a water park in Maryland Heights. They have a tube slide, a rapids slide, a flume slide, a bowl slide, short racer slides, a lazy river, a little kids activity pool, and a large activity pool. It was very nice there. It was big enough that there was plenty to do, but small enough that I felt comfortable letting the kids go do what they wanted. I spent a lot of time just floating in the lazy river.

We got there about 15 minutes before the opened and there were already a lot of people there. But, there were not so many people that we did not get a good place to park our stuff. We got a place directly under an umbrella, so even though we were there for four hours our chairs were in the shade the whole time. We really enjoyed our day there.

After Michael got home this evening we went to Cracker Barrel for supper. Then, we decided to drive out to the northern part of St. Charles County. We went to see if the shrine in Portage was flooded. Yup, the river is still up pretty high out there, even part of the road (a small part) going to the parking lot to the shrine is under water.

So, then we headed out to the conservation area by the Alton Dam. Of course there's quite a bit of high water out there, too. The road to the dam is flooded. It looks a little strange out there because the water is coming around the dam. It kind of looks like they built half a dam and then just stopped. The road to the confluence of both rivers is flooded, too.

I did get some pretty good sunset pictures. There were toads hopping around everywhere, too. And, I got a good close up of a mayfly. It was a nice evening.

When we left the conservation area we went across the bridge into Alton. We stopped at McDonald's to get drinks and then wandered around Alton's river front for a little while. They have a really nice amphitheater down there now. I hadn't seen it before. I guess it's been a while since we've actually been in Alton.

It was just a very good day all around.

July 22, 2010

Today the kids and I went to the zoo. We got kind of a late start so we didn't get there until around 10:00 a.m. It was already hot outside. We looked at a few animals on our way to the sea lion show. We got to the sea lion show early so we could have seats in front. We love the sea lion show. We always enjoy it so much.

After the sea lion show we were very hot so we went into the primate house because it's got air conditioning. It was nice to be somewhere a little cooler. The kids loved seeing the monkeys. Then we went in the herpetarium to see to the reptiles and amphibians. I'm not big on this building, but we've not been in it in a long time and it is also a cool place.

By this time I was getting light headed so we went to the big indoor air conditioned cafe. We were all really hungry. It was nice to sit down and have some food.

After we ate we went to the stingray exhibit. It was so cool getting to pet the stingrays. They are amazing animals. The kids loved doing this. I think it was the best part of the day. We'd never gotten to do this before because the line has always been too long. I'm so glad we got to do it today.

When we left the stingrays we got on the train and rode it around to where the big cats are located. We looked at them and then went into the area with all the hoofed animals. There was a lady passed out in front of the zebras. I'm sure the heat got to her. An ambulance came to get her.

We wandered around the hoofed animals for a while, stopping to have a Popsicle. We then worked our way towards the penguins by going through the bird house that was built in 1904. We got to see the bears on our way to the penguins. But, the penguin house was closed. They said it would open back up in about an hour, but it was starting to get late and we were just really hot. My eyelids were even sweating. It was time to leave.

So, we got back on the train and took it to the station closest to the entrance. We went into the gift shop before leaving. Michaela got a new baseball cap (hers was really getting too small) and Caleb got a tiger necklace. They both got a little rubber stingray to remember their first time petting stingrays. I got a cute little stingray picture holder. I plan on putting a picture of them with the stingrays in it.

Tonight, watching the news, I found out our heat index got up to about 109 today. It's supposed to be even hotter tomorrow. It's no wonder we were so hot. I am exhausted tonight. Caleb had to go get his football pads and then go to baseball practice tonight. I have a feeling he'll sleep in tomorrow.

July 21, 2010

It was not a very active day around here today. I did some laundry. The kids and I went to Culver's for lunch and then I let them get a movie and a game at Blockbuster. Other than that we really didn't do much.

Tonight Michaela was supposed to go to Swapapalooza for Girl Scouts, but there was a thunderstorm that rained it out. She was a little disappointed, but I think it wasn't too much of a hardship for her.

Michael took Caleb to his swim lesson tonight. They almost had to cancel lessons, but I guess the thunder and lightening stopped soon enough so that they could have their class. Michael said that Caleb's class was about the only ones in the pool.

I have not felt very good today. I was awake most of the night with heart burn and an upset stomach. I have not been able to shake this heart burn all day. I get hungry, but then when I smell food I get nauseous. My appetite has not been great today. I hope I feel better tomorrow.

July 20, 2010

Both kids were at their friends' houses for most of the day. This is a good thing because I've been dealing with a really bad headache and having to try and get homework done for all three of my classes. I don't want summer to be over, but I'll be glad to be finished with these classes. Three classes at once is not easy. There is no way I could have done this during the school year.

We went to get Michael's motorcycle tonight. The repair shop has had it for three months!!! It's been ridiculous how long it's taken them to fix it. Michael says it's running good now though. That's good.

Michaela had her acting class tonight. We had to stop at Wal-mart to get her some make up. They learned how to put on stage make up tonight and needed some to practice with.

I went to St. Louis Bread Company and got an iced tea and sat down to work on homework again. It just seems to not be going smoothly the last couple weeks. It's not that it's hard, it's just I can't seem to get it to be what I want it to be. I manged to finally get it all finished before the kids went to bed tonight, but I would have liked to have it done sooner than that.

Monday, July 19, 2010

July 19, 2010

This afternoon both my kids left to spend the night at friends' houses. Caleb and I took Michaela over to Lauren's around 3:30 p.m. Then, we got home around 4:30 p.m. just in time for Lisa and Chase to pick up Caleb. It was quiet here for about an hour until Michael got home.

Michael and I went to Texas Roadhouse for dinner. Then, we went down to Main Street and the river front to walk around. It has been a long time since we've done that without kids with us. It was really nice having that time to just us. I know that all too soon, we'll have all kinds of time for just us, but right now it doesn't happen often.

July 18, 2010

I got up and went to early service at my church this morning. The pastor at my church is retiring next month. I understand that it is time for that and he has earned it, but I'm really going to miss him. It is going to be very strange without him there as pastor. He's been our pastor for 25 years. It amazes me that it's been that long, but it has. He's a great man and a wonderful pastor. It's going to be hard to find someone to fill his shoes. They are having a special retirement service and luncheon for him on August 15. We are going to go to it.

Michaela talked to Josh at Michael's church today. She is going to be baptized next Sunday. She is very excited about this and so am I. She is going to spend the night Saturday night at my mom's. Then, my mom will bring her to early service at our church and we'll all go to Michael's church so we can see Michaela get baptized. Michaela called my mom and Michael's mom when we got home from going out to eat after church.

This afternoon I went with Melissa to see Tamara in the hospital. It was good to see her, but I hope she is able to go home soon. I know she's dying to go home. Being in the hospital is no fun at all. I hope they are able to get everything under control soon. I feel so badly for her and I'm sure Bryan and the kids want her home too.

Saturday, July 17, 2010

July 17, 2010

I got up around 6:30 this morning. I had to be at the hotel to pick up Michaela by 7:30 so we could be at the Y in time for our swimming classes. She was just getting ready to eat breakfast when I got there, so I sat down and waited for her. It looked like they had a nice set up for breakfast there. It sounds like they all had fun.

Michaela and I got to the Y just in time. Michaela was tired, but she still seemed to do well in her class. I watched it for about 10 minutes after my class was over. I really like the way her teacher handles her students.

After we got home we had just a little bit of time to relax until it was time to go to Caleb's baseball game. His game was out in Lake St. Louis today. It was a very nice park. But, it was VERY HOT again. Caleb had to sit out an inning because the catchers equipment was making him too hot. The team they played today was much better than the other teams they've played, but they managed to win anyway. They are now 3-0. They had to work harder for this win, but I think that was good for them.

Michael's brother and our nephew were at the game to help coach again. I love seeing them out there helping. Caleb loves it too. We all went to Pantera's for lunch after the game. It was really good, but then again I was really hungry.

Michael and I both fell asleep when we got home. So we didn't do much this afternoon. This evening we went to Hatfield's and McCoy's for supper and then went to Sears. We brought home a new vacuum cleaner. I went back and forth on some but we ended up buying another bag vacuum because the bagless that we could afford were all just a lot more work than I want to deal with. The one bagless that was easy was the Dyson and I would have loved to have that one, but it was just too expensive.

July 16, 2010

Today I worked on the slide show for VBS. I managed to get it done with very little problems, which is unusual, but I'm glad for it. The kids and I did go out for lunch and ran an errand, but other than that we were at home.

Tonight we went to VBS. I had to make sure the slide show was set up. Stacey wanted me to go to the store to get the ingredients for the slime. The girls won the missions challenge and so Josh had to get slimed by the girls.

Michael took Michaela to the girl scout sleep over after her group had their turn at games at VBS. They are spending the night at a local hotel. It is the first time I've not gone with her to a sleep over, but she seemed more than ok with not having me there this time. I guess she's ready to do some things like that on her own.

My slide show went over well at VBS. I got several compliments on it. I personally do not feel it was one of my best, but it turned out ok. I'm relieved it is finished and I don't have to worry about it any more.

Josh got slimed with pink slime right before everyone went home. They also broke a bunch of water balloons over his head. Poor guy got conked in the head a couple times, too, with the bowls. But, he was a really good sport about it.

On another note... we had to take Abby to the vet yesterday because she was not using her leg on Tuesday. It was her good back leg. We were scared she'd messed up her knee again. She seemed better yesterday, but today she's a lot better. The vet messed around with all her joints and did not feel anything out of the ordinary. He checked her paw that had the tumors on it and said it looked good and felt her lymph nodes and said they felt good, too. He also looked at her eyes because they had been weeping, but he said they looked really good for her age. He gave us some anti-inflammatory meds and told me to call him on Saturday with a status report. If she doesn't get better they will sedate her and do x-rays.

July 15, 2010

Today the kids and I went to the pool at Blanchette. It was really hot out today. A few times it looked like it may rain or even thunderstorm, but it never did and ended up being very sunny. I got a lot of sun today. I'm a little tender, but mostly I got some tan.

Michaela introduced me to two moms today. One mom had a girl in Camp Read A Lot and Michaela met her there. The other mom had a girl who Michaela knows from 3rd grade and from running club last year. I enjoyed talking to them. Both of their girls are going to be on Michaela's team in school this year. That means Michaela has four friends on her team that she knows of now. I am so glad she has friends that she knows is going to be on her team. She is very happy about it, too.

Caleb and Michael went to football camp tonight. Michaela and I went to VBS. I took my computer with me so I could spend some time working on editing the pictures I've taken so far. I needed to get as much done as possible so that I can get the slide show made tomorrow.

When we got home Michael's brother was here. He'd brought back the baseball equipment. He took Michael's place at coaching baseball practice tonight so that Michael could take Caleb to football camp. It's been a busy week and it's not over yet.

Wednesday, July 14, 2010

July 14, 2010

Not a lot went on here today. I did some laundry and worked on editing the pictures I have taken so far for VBS.

We went to VBS tonight. Caleb skipped his swim lesson to be at VBS. They did water games and got to wear their swim suits to VBS tonight. They all had a lot of fun with that.

Tuesday, July 13, 2010

July 13, 2010

Today I worked on my home work most of the day. It took longer than I thought it would for some reason. It was not more difficult than usual and there was actually less to do, but for some reason it just wasn't going as quickly as it should have gone. I did manage to get everything completed before it was time to make something for supper, though so that is good.

Caleb's friend, Chase went to VBS with us again tonight. He is enjoying it. I have been watching the boys in their group and they are really having fun together. One of Caleb's football team mates is also in their group in VBS, so they are all acting a lot like boys together.

Michaela and I had to leave VBS early tonight so she could go to her acting class. She didn't get to do the craft so they let her bring the supplies home to do it. She'll bring it back to VBS tomorrow because it needs to be laminated.

I got to watch a little bit of Michaela's class and she is really having fun with it. I feel so blessed that we are able to give our children these types of opportunities to do things that interest them. I also love getting to watch them enjoy their activities.

July 12, 2010

The kids had friends over today. They each had one friend come over to spend the afternoon hanging out. They swam in the pool, played Wii and played in their rooms. I think they all had fun. For the most part they were all really well behaved and it was a nice afternoon for all of us.

Tonight both friends went with us to VBS. I think they had fun. It seemed like they did. It was a pretty good day all around.

Sunday, July 11, 2010

July 11, 2010

Today was the most wonderful day. We got up at 5:00 a.m. to get ready to get on the road. We drove down to Johnson Shut Ins and got there around 8:20 or so. It was still not very warm out and no one seemed to be going into the park yet, so we went to Elephant Rock.

When we got to Elephant rock there were only a few other people there. We wandered around the trails and up onto the top of the dome. That place just amazes me. Just the size of those granite rocks is amazing enough, but the fact that they are sitting up there on top of everything is mind boggling. The trails have been black topped and walking on them is much easier than the last time I was there.

It started to get hot by the time we finished wandering the trails. The park was starting to fill up with people, too. So, we headed back to Johnson Shut Ins. They have done a great job restoring that park. It's really beautiful.

We parked and walked to the Shut Ins. I was expecting the water to be cold since it is rushing water. But, I guess the rocks getting warmed by the sun must help because while it was cool and great for cooling off it was not cold. It was actually perfect.

I am obviously not as agile as I used to be. I could not walk across the rocks. I had to use my hands and climb and crawl across them. But, getting in the water was worth it and the deep parts of the water was so refreshing. I had so much fun and so did Michael and the kids.

We went down to the big rocks that make cliffs and the kids had fun jumping off of them. Michael even jumped once. I had no desire to climb up on those big rocks, so I just watched. But, it was still so much fun. I love these days when we get to go and do stuff like this as a family.

We swam and played around on the rocks in the Shut Ins for a few hours. Then, we went back to the van and found a picnic table to eat lunch. I think we were all pretty hungry. It was getting kind of late for lunch. By the time we finished eating it was well past 2:00. So, we changed into dry clothes and headed up to Tam Sauk State Park.

We went to the over look up there and got some pictures of the view. We tried to go up on the look out tower, but it was closed. There were storms moving in and there was lightening in the area so I guess they thought it best not to let people up on a metal and wood tower.

By then it was time to head home. We had to drive through some rain, but we managed to make really good time getting home. We came home long enough to unload things from the van and let Abby outside. Then we went to church for the BBQ VBS kickoff. We were there for a couple hours and got to visit with friends. It was a nice end to a fabulous day.

Saturday, July 10, 2010

July 10, 2010

Caleb had his second baseball game today. They did so well! They really look like a team. The won again. I felt a little sorry for the other team, though because our team just really played so much better than they did and a couple innings were called because our team got the maximum runs allowed in order for them to instate the mercy rule. But, the other team kept trying.

Caleb played catcher again. He seems to love being catcher. He's also gotten a little bossy. You could hear him over in the dugout directing the other boys around. They all seem to listen to him, though. Which is ok, when he's telling them the right thing. Not so good when he's got it wrong.

This evening we went out to eat at R.T. Weilers. It's been a little while since we've been there. It was good. Then, we went out to the Super Wal-mart in Lake St. Louis to get supplies for tomorrow. We got lunch meant and chips and stuff to take with us to Johnson Shut Ins so we can eat lunch there. I am really looking forward to tomorrow.

July 9, 2010

The kids and I went to Laumeier Sculpture Park today. We haven't been there since Caleb was about three or four. It's been a while. It was REALLY HOT out there today.

They have added some new sculptures. It was fun to wander around and see everything. We really got a kick out of the giant eyeball. It is kind of creepy, but still fun. Caleb said it looked like it was following him.

We saw three deer run through the park. That was so cool. They were only about 50 yards from us. I don't think I've ever been that close to a deer. I was so stunned an surprised I did not get my camera up to get a picture of them. I think everyone in the park was surprised you could hear "oh's" all through the park as they ran through.

We went into the wooded part of the park and spent most of our time there. I've never done that before. There is a lot more in the wooded area than I thought was there. We enjoyed discovering the sculptures on the paths in the woods very much.

We had hoped to go to Powder Valley after having lunch, but by the time we finally ate, it was just getting too late. We would not have had enough time there to enjoy any of it. So, I guess we'll save that for another time.

Thursday, July 8, 2010

July 8, 2010

We went to have lunch with Michael today. It is the first time I've eaten at a Mexican restaurant in about 18 months. I've not been able to eat at one since I got the stomach flu right after the last time I ate there. It was ok. I'm still not going to rush into Mexican Restaurants, but at least I am feeling ok after eating there. It was a nice lunch and the kids loved getting to see their dad during the work day.

After we had lunch we went out to The Weldon Spring Site. It is a very interesting place. It is a containment cell for toxic waste that was created from a TNT plant that used to manufacture dynamite in the first part of the 20th century. They have an interpretive center that explains all that was done to clean up the site and create the containment cell.

We looked around in there for a little while. Then, we wandered the small wildflower garden they have in front of the center. It has plants that are native to Missouri. Then, we went up on the containment cell. They have a path and stairs that lead to the top of it. There are plaques up there that explain some of it. It is supposed to be the highest point in our county. It was pretty amazing up there. The containment cell takes up something like 42 acres total.

It got pretty hot while we were out there, but it was very interesting. The view from the top was really cool, too.

Today the kids and I went to play miniature golf at our local Swing Around. It was kind of hot, but we had fun. I was really proud of them. They both did really well today with the game. Michaela even got a hole in one, twice. I got a hole in one, too. Caleb was bummed because he didn't get one. But, we really enjoyed the time together.

Tonight was Caleb's swim lesson. I can really see the improvement in his swimming. He's doing so much better. His grandparents came to watch him tonight, too. It was nice to see them. Michael's mom startled me at first, though. I was reading and I heard someone clear their throat. At first I thought I'd taken someone's chair.

Tonight was Michaela's first acting class. She is taking it at the our local community college through their kids' college. She was really excited and nervous at the same time. It's once a week for four weeks, so it's not a long class. They meet for an hour and half each week. She really enjoyed it and cannot wait until next week.

When we got home Michael and Caleb were shooting birds. Last week we found Bird Hunter for Wii with the gun attachment at Big Lots for less than $30 and bought it for Michael. He and Caleb finally broke it out its box last night. They really seemed to be enjoying themselves. Caleb was in heaven having Daddy play a game with him.

We didn't really do anything today. Michael had the day off and we just hung out around home. We had thought about going to Johnson Shut Ins, but really were not prepared to go. We need to take food with us because there really is no place to eat close by down there and once you get in the park you don't want to leave because they usually have a line waiting to get in. Maybe we'll go next weekend.

I did go to Wal-mart this evening to get a few things. I got us all water shoes so if/when we go to Johnson Shut Ins we have something to wear on our feet in the water.

I finished watching the second season of The Tudors today. The second season was really good. I am looking forward to watching the third season. It is not available to watch online though. I think after watching all the seasons of this show I will have to learn more about Henry VIII and his wives. It has piqued my interest.

I have not felt well today. My left arm is really hurting and I've just felt like crap. I'm wondering if I did not get more dehydrated yesterday than I thought. All I know is I just really wanted to lay around and do nothing but sleep and rest today. It sucks feeling like this on a holiday. I wish I would have felt better because then I would have talked to Michael about going and doing something.

We did go out to eat this evening. Then, we stopped at the fireworks tent and bought some fireworks. This evening we stayed at home and shot off our fireworks. It was really cool because there were SO MANY people around the neighborhood shooting off fireworks that at one point I had trouble hearing what Michael was saying to me. There were booms everywhere. People really spent a lot of money on fireworks this year. It was really cool that there were so many going off at the same time.

July 3, 2010

It was a great day here. I think I may have gotten a little over heated in the parade, but other than that we had a really good day. Next year, I'm not going to carry a back pack. Michaela and I will find a little wagon somewhere and pull that with our "supplies." I think the back pack just made me too hot.

This afternoon, my mom came over early to help us get ready for our guests. We used her EZ Up tent and ours, so we had two. We put the food tables under those on the patio. We also had places for people to sit under the tree. It was a normal summer day, but the breeze kept it bearable. We had a really good turn out. There were about 26 people here all together. Everyone seemed to have a good time.

Between my mom, Michael's mom and Karen, I had a lot of help getting the food together and cleaning up. It was great having both sides of the family here. It means a lot to me when I can have both my family and Michael's family together. And, having our friends here was an added bonus. I am just very grateful for the people in my life.

July 2, 2010

I spent the whole day cleaning and getting ready for tomorrow's BBQ. I really want this to be a good day for everyone here. I know I'm stressing myself out some over it, but I can't help it. We all have to be at the park in the morning because we are all four walking in the parade. So, we won't have the morning to prepare. We'll have a few hours after the parade, though.

Michael and Caleb are walking in the parade with the football league. Michaela and I are walking with Girl scouts. I hope it doesn't rain and I hope it's not too hot.

Michael's been outside pretty much since he got home getting the yard ready. He's been great about helping with everything. But, he always is great about that stuff.

July 1, 2010

The kids and I started the process of cleaning up for our BBQ this weekend. It looks like we're going to have a pretty good turn out. I am excited about it. It's been a long time since we've done something like this. I don't think we've had family and friends over for a BBQ or outdoor party like this since Michaela was a year old.

We've had family get togethers since then. And, we did have family and friends over for my 40th birthday when Michael planned my surprise party a year and a half ago. Other than that, we really haven't had social gatherings. I am really looking forward to this.
