December 31, 2010

It is New Year's Eve. It is amazing how fast this year has gone by. We are going to Stacey's parents' house tonight. There is a surprise birthday party for Stacey there. I'm not sure how long we'll stay, but I get to see Tamara and Melissa as well as Stacey, so I'm happy about that. I'm sure we'll have fun.

December 30, 2010

Michaela's last swim practice for 2010 was this evening. They do not have practice tomorrow because of the holiday. Caleb and I did not have class so I just sat and watched and Caleb played in the gym with his basket ball. I took my new camera and messed around with it some. I read some of the owner's manual... what little bit of one they gave me with the camera, too.

December 29, 2010

I can't believe that I only have four days left of my winter break. It always goes by way too fast. I enjoy being home with my kids. We went to see Tangled today. It was cute. I would have preferred to see Yogi Bear, but Tangled was fun.

They showed previews for another movie that really looked funny. It's called Gnomeo and Juliet. It's a Romeo and Juliet story about garden gnomes. The kids and I all want to see it.

December 28, 2010

Today is Michael's Dad's birthday. Since we celebrated it on Sunday, I had the kids call him. They love doing that and I'm sure he loves hearing them say Happy Birthday.

The kids and I spent the day cleaning up the house again. It seems we spend a lot of time doing that when we don't have to be at school/work.

December 27, 2010

Today was "put away Christmas" day. I spent most of the day putting away Christmas decorations. I started with my Santa Clauses. Then, I started on the other stuff. The kids took the ornaments off the tree. Michael took the tree apart when everything was off of it. I put all the boxes and bins back where they belong in the back room downstairs.

I did not realize it until it was too late, but I filled up the tote that the blow up snowman is supposed to go in with other stuff, so it's still up. We're going to have to buy a new tote for it. I also left out the snowmen on the landing. The wreaths on the front door and the kids' doors are also still hanging up. We'll take the wreaths down at the end of January. The snowmen can be put away when winter is over.

In any case it's put away and I'm glad that is behind me. It is a chore I do not enjoy and it depresses me. However, it is a relief to have it over and it is nice to have my house back to normal.

December 26, 2010

Today we celebrated Lloyd's and Gale's birthdays. We all met at Red Lobster. We gave Lloyd cashews and cologne. We gave Gale an ornament and a candle. We also gave Jeremy Jr. his birthday present (over a month late). We gave him an Xbox card.

Supper was nice. I got to talk to Kelly some. I had crab legs and that's always good. Other than that we didn't do much today.

December 25, 2010

It is Christmas Day. It seems to come faster and faster every year.

We got up around 8:00 a.m. here at home. The kids seemed very happy with how spoiled they got. Both of them got new comforters from Santa. Michaela's is purple, black, white patchwork with animal print on some of the patches. Caleb's is sports themed. They both got a lot of clothes, too. There were DS games and Wii games and some board games.

Michael got a new drill set that has two drills and two batteries. The batteries are the new Lithium Ion batteries. He also got a drill bit set with a bag, two shirts and a Charlie Brown DVD set.

I got a new camera!!!! It's another Fuji. It has 12.1 mega pixels and 18x optical zoom. It's got 14 scene settings. It is amazing. I love it!!! I also got another set of Scottie pajamas which I'll have to take back. And, I got another purple sweater, but a different purple, Season 3 of Big Bang Theory on DVD.

After we were finished here at home, we got dressed and went over to Michael's parents' house. We opened presents there before we had diner.

I got a candle, Bejewled Blitz, a new coat and gloves and a scarf and a new jewelry box. All the "boys" got remote controlled helicopters. We all got spoiled. It was a really good day.

November 26, 2010

I got up at 4:00 a.m. this morning to go shopping. I wasn't sure I would do that this year because I just will NOT go to Wal-mart early in the morning on Black Friday anymore since they are open all night. And, I don't want to do the all night thing. But, I decided to go anyway. I left the house around 4:30 and went to Target.

I actually found several things there. I left Target before 6:00 and headed to the mall. The mall was PACKED. I drove around for about 10 minutes before I found a parking spot. I went into JC Penney first. Then, I headed to Borders. I stopped at a sports kiosk on my way out of Borders. Then, stopped at a kiosk that was selling personalized ornaments. I got a swimming one for Michaela and a football one for Caleb.

I looked around in Macy's for a while and then headed out of the mall. I went to Wal-mart after that. I almost got run over by a manager at Wal-mart moving a rack and saying things very loudly about customers who would not move so he could move things around. It was actually very rude, since I had JUST stepped up into that area.

I had planned on going to Bass Pro Shop, too, but by the time I left Wal-mart it was about 20 minutes to 11 when the morning sales were over. Plus, I was feeling light headed and getting really tired.

I came home and tried to nap some, but of course my children were not at all cooperative with that. I did make us some lunch and then this afternoon the kids and I watched Disney's Christmas Carol.

This evening we all went to Applebee's to have supper. Now, I'm just vegetating and watching the fourth season of The Tudors.

Thanksgiving Day 2010

It is Thanksgiving Day. My mom, Griff, Brandon and Karen came over for Thanksgiving today. We had turkey that turned on pretty good... not my best but still was good. I always get very nervous that my turkey will not turn out one of these years.

We also had stuffing, cranberries, canned cranberry sauce, green bean casserole, corn, rolls, noodles, mashed potatoes and gravy, pickles, olives, raw vegetables, and deviled eggs. Michaela made the deviled eggs. We had pumpkin pie, cheesecake and gingerbread with caramel sauce for dessert.

Everyone was here until around 8:00 or so. I am setting my alarm to get up in the morning, but I'm not sure I'm going to actually go shopping. We'll see.

November 24, 2010

It was a VERY BUSY day for us today. The kids and I both had the day off from work/school. We took the van out to the auto body shop and got an estimate on getting it fixed. The lady who ran in me damaged the bumper enough that the plastic surround on it has to be replaced. The damage to the side of the van will be fixed, too but we'll pay for that. I'm just really glad to have that all taken care of until we take it in to get it fixed. I have to drop it off next Wednesday. The lady's insurance is going to pay for a rental car, too. The place we take the van too arranges all that for us, too.

The kids and I went and got a few things at Wal-mart after we left the auto body shop, then we came home. We ate lunch and got started cleaning. We cleaned the rest of the day and the kids really did a great job and did not complain at all. The did every thing I asked them to do. I am very proud of them.

Michael made two pumpkin pies, a cheesecake and cranberries when he got home tonight. He brought Subway home with him so we wouldn't have to cook anything tonight for supper. Michael also cleaned up the basement tonight. He's such a great husband.

I started working on the turkey at 10:00 p.m. I made the stuffing and cleaned out the dishwasher before stuffing the turkey. Michael helped me get the bird in the oven and I turned the oven on so it could start cooking. I love cooking the turkey that way. Having the house smell like turkey when you wake up is so incredible. That's how Thanksgiving was when I was growing up (when we stayed home for it) and I just love it.

November 7, 2010

Well, our first experience with the SCCY Gobbler is over. We had to be at the Y early this morning. We were there by 6:45 a.m. Michaela had 5 events again today. Michael and I worked staging and that was fun. I got to call the events on the microphone. I really enjoyed that.

I missed one of Michaela's heats because I had missed it on the heat sheet. But, it was an individual heat and she shaved a whole 11 seconds off her time on the 50 m freestyle. I'm so proud of her and so excited for her!!! That is HUGE! One of her backstroke relay teams came in second, too. She had a fantastic day in the water today.

We were home by about 2:30 today and that was a lot earlier than we were expecting. Michael went outside to paint the boards he's replaced on the house. I've been doing laundry and I went up to my mom's so she could mark some pants for me. She's going to hem them for me.

Now, I'm going to go try to figure our what we're going to have for supper. The rest of the night I'll be working on laundry and maybe do some things for work. I am going to try to go to bed before 10:00 p.m. tonight.

November 6, 2010

It was a really long day, but I think we all enjoyed the day. I went to Dierberg's this morning before we had to leave and got the vegetable platter for the coaches meals and the two 2 liters of soda we were supposed to donate.

We were at the Y a little before 10:00 a.m. After we got Michaela's area set up in the gym, I went to help with the concessions. Michael worked "security" for the first part of the meet and I helped out with concessions. It was fun. I enjoyed the people I worked with in concessions. I was right there were I could just step over and see Michaela swim. She is having so much fun with swimming. She just lights up whenever she gets near the pool.

We were there until about 5:30 tonight. Michaela did really well and one of her relay teams came in third for their relay. She loved it today.

We came home and ordered a pizza from Stefanina's. I've been doing laundry tonight. I've gotten about four loads done. Michael needed socks for tomorrow so I had to make sure I got at least that far with the laundry.

Friday, November 5, 2010

November 5, 2010

Michaela had swim practice tonight. We were a little late, but she was there for most of it. I helped with the beginning of setting up for the Gobbler. We were working on getting the concession area put up and ready to go. I enjoyed helping out.

We took the kids to Steak 'n Shake for supper after wards. Now, we're all home and it's time to go to bed. I'm really tired and we've got a busy weekend ahead of us. Michaela is very excited. I really love seeing her excited about this.

Thursday, November 4, 2010

November 4, 2010

It's Thursday and I just want it to be next Thursday. I am not looking forward to work tomorrow. I hate PD days. I just want my students and don't want to have to deal with sitting around in meetings all day.

This weekend we'll be at the Y most of the weekend for The Gobbler. They have been gearing up for this since we started the swimming season. It's the big fundraiser meet for the year. We've had to donate tons of stuff for this. But, supposedly it keeps us from having to sell candy bars or such. I sure hope so.

Caleb and I had our first classes back in the water tonight. Caleb is in the Guppy Plus class now and I'm back in the deep end water aerobics. It was nice to be back at it. I'm wiped out, but it's a good wiped out. I'm really glad we are back at it. Caleb really enjoyed it, too.

November 3, 2010

Well, thank you my fellow Missourians for voting away our rights to owning animals. I cannot believe how incredibly STUPID my state mates are. Seriously? You all really think that this whole thing was about saving puppies and dogs from puppy mills.

HELLO WE ALREADY HAD PUPPY MILL LAWS!!!!! I'm just so disgusted with the people of my state right now I cannot even think straight. It's literally making me sick to my stomach.

Tuesday, November 2, 2010

November 2, 2010

It was election day. Today was the day Missourians were asked to vote on Proposition B. I'm sitting here now watching the returns. I really hope this thing does not pass. I hope Americans are willing to become strict vegetarians if things keep going the way they are going now.

I've been reading more on the HSUS and Wayne Pacelle. It is just really depressing me. These people use the name Humane Society, but they HAVE NOTHING TO DO with our local shelters. They do not own shelters. They do not operate shelters. They do no help out local shelters. The more I read the more I know that they are not concerned about the dogs in the puppy mills.

Wayne Pacelle has stated that he is all for the extinction of domesticated animals. The HSUS did fund raising for the displaced pets of Hurricane Katrina. Out of the millions of dollars they raised they only gave about 1% of it to animal rescue groups who were working to save those pets. The rest of that money went right back into their lobbying efforts.

I am just really upset by all I'm reading. It's making me miss my Abby girl so much more. I just want to hug her to me and she's not here. I hope the people of MO are happy when their right to own animals is taken away from them. It makes me so mad that people do not really read things and do not really do their research and do not realize that propositions are legal documents and are written like legal documents so they should be read like legal documents. What is written down in the body trumps anything at the beginning or any definitions that a normal person would apply to terminology they would use in every day life.

November 1, 2010

And, so it's Monday again. Somehow this day comes faster than any other day of the week. However, I am much happier this Monday than most since we do not have a staff meeting tomorrow. Yeah!

Work was ok today. The kids were pretty good and we seem to get a lot done. We did not get to go to the library because our librarian was at a meeting. I was kind of bummed about that. I really like our new librarian. She's a lot of fun. The kids like her too.

Tonight Michaela had girl scouts. Luckily, I was able to get a new nut order form for her. We managed to lose hers. I've no idea what we did with it, but I cannot find it anywhere.

It was a pretty good meeting. The girls worked on their leadership. They did a pretty good job.

Sunday, October 31, 2010

Ocotber 31, 2010

It's Halloween!!! It's been a pretty good day. We did not go to church. Michael wanted to work on painting the house again today. I did laundry and worked on uploading my pictures. The kids did their chores and played.

This afternoon Michael helped the kids carve their pumpkins. He even got out the drill. They thought that was really cool. He is really good at helping them with stuff like that.

During the pumpkin carving the kids started getting ready in their costumes, too. Caleb wanted make up for tonight and Michaela needed help with hers again. They both ended up looking really good. I got some really great pictures of both of them.

We took them to mom's first. I showed mom my wig and she's sure she'll be able to help with it. Then, we went to Michael's parents' house. While we were there the kids went across the street to Mrs. Mazanec's house. They both just love her. She's a wonderful teacher and woman. I talked to her some. On the way back to Michael's parents' house they stopped at the house next door to see if Michaela's friend was there. She wasn't but they got a special treat from them.

Then, we came home. Michael took the kids out trick or treating and I stayed home to work more on laundry and pictures. We had a few trick or treaters, but not a lot. I finally turned out the lights when the trick or treaters looked old enough to have their own apartment.

The kids got another small grocery bag full of candy. Holy cow we have TONS of candy now. There's not enough room in the candy bowl for it all. It's crazy.

Saturday, October 30, 2010

October 30, 2010

It was another busy Saturday. I had to go to Wal-mart this morning because we needed three birthday presents today. We also needed some necessities. The kids went with me so we could stop at the produce stand to get two pumpkins. Michael said they should get them so he could help them carve them. He's such a good daddy.

Michael worked on the house most of the day. Caleb and I went to Chase's birthday party. It was at this place called Matteson Square Gardens. It's a sports complex. It has an indoor soccer/football field, a futsal field and an in-line hockey rink. The kids got the use of the football/soccer field and lots of balls and stuff. There were two big inflatables on the futsal field that they could play on, too.

When we got home from the party, I did a little bit of laundry. We had to go to my mom's tonight for October family birthdays. Mom had shrimp spaghetti, bacon spaghetti and lasagna for dinner tonight. The shrimp spaghetti was pretty good. Then, for desert she had a strawberry cake, blackberry cobbler and gingerbread with caramel sauce. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm gingerbread with caramel sauce... LOVE IT!!!!

October 29, 2010

I enjoyed today so much. I only had to work three hours because it was PT conferences day. The three hours we do on the Friday goes by so much faster than the four hours the night before. So, I got to leave work at 11:00.

I went to Wal-Mart to get a few things before I grabbed some lunch at Arby's and came home. Caleb went to Chase's house after school so I didn't have to go get him until around 2:00. I had about half an hour at home before Michaela got home from school. It is kind of cool that she gets off the bus and gets home by herself.

When I got Caleb home the kids got into their costumes. I did a great job on Michaela's make up if I do say so myself. We went down to Main Street for trick or treating down there. It was fun, but boy was it packed down there. There were so many people down there. I am glad I took them. We all enjoyed it.

We had to go straight from there to the YMCA (well, after stopping at the gas station to get something to drink). Caleb and I got to swim for about an hour before swim practice started. I spent a few minutes in the hot tub before showing and getting dressed. After that I sat and talked with Stacey and Jen. Michael had come while Caleb and I were in the pool, so he was there too.

Then, Michael and the kids and I went out to eat at Applebee's. It was really good. However, I am so tired I cannot keep my eyes open.

Thursday, October 28, 2010

October 28, 2010

Tonight was PT conferences after school. It meant working a 12 hour day. I am so glad we only do this twice a year. These long days are so hard. I had a great turn out, though. The parents I'm working with are really great this year. I am enjoying all of them. I feel very blessed with the class I have and with their parents. However, I am glad this day is over.

Wednesday, October 27, 2010

October 27, 2010

I am so glad there was no where we had to be tonight. Michael went to do the grocery shopping. I had TONS of stuff to get done for PT conferences tomorrow. I needed to make sure I had at least some papers for my parents to look at and I did that. I feel as ready as I'm going to get, but I am really tired. I will be glad when PT conferences are over. I am so glad we're getting off work at 11 a.m. on Friday.

Tuesday, October 26, 2010

October 26, 2010

I am a lot less tense this Tuesday than I usually am on Tuesdays. We did not have any formal staff meeting today. We were given time to work on things for PT conferences. I managed to get some things done. I am completely caught up on my grades. They are to date as of RIGHT now! That's a first for me this early in a quarter. I'm so proud of myself. Now, if I can just keep it up, next marking period will be so much easier for me.

Michaela had swim practice tonight. I wore sweats and went up on the track again. I did 2+ miles. I did it the same way I did it last week, but I kept track of my laps this time. I am pretty proud of myself. It makes me tired, but it's a tired that feels a lot more healthy than not exercising.

Monday, October 25, 2010

October 25, 2010

It's Monday and it's going to be a long week. We have PT conferences at the end of the week. I still have so much I need to get done before then. I will be glad when we get to the weekend. It will be busy, but not as busy as some and at least PT conferences will be over. I'm glad we did not have girl scouts this week. I really needed the time at home to work on things.

Sunday, October 24, 2010

October 24, 2010

It was wonderful to just be at home today. We did not go to church and I stayed in comfortable clothes all day. I did run a couple errands, but that is about it. I worked on laundry and got a few things ready for PT conferences. They are at the end of this week. It was such a relief to not have to be anywhere today.

Saturday, October 23, 2010

October 23, 2010

Today was Caleb's last football game of the year. They lost again. I feel so badly for them. Caleb says he's had fun all season, so that's important. I'm glad he's still having fun.

The head coach's "wife" took the kids to another park close to their house to play for a while. We went down there after we came home for something to drink. We sat around and visited with them and had pizza for a couple hours. It was a nice time. I'm glad we went.

This evening we went costume shopping for the kids. Michaela is going to be Cleopatra and Caleb is going to be Dracula. Now, I have to do some research on how to do Cleopatra's make up. I hope I can find something that's not too difficult to do.

Friday, October 22, 2010

October 22, 2010

Yeah! It's Friday! I am really glad the week is over. Caleb has his last football game tomorrow, but that is the only place we have to be this weekend.

Tonight, we went to the Y early so Caleb and I could swim before Michaela's practice. It was fun. It was some great mommy/son time. We don't get a lot of time that's just for the two of us and this was perfect. I got to exercise some and we had a lot of fun with the ball. Caleb is just amazing to me. I am so glad God blessed me with him.

Michael came up to the Y while Caleb and I were still in the pool. He stayed around for Michaela's practice. After wards we went to Trailhead and had a late supper. We had nachos. YUM!!!! It's been a while since we ate there so it tasted really good.

Thursday, October 21, 2010

October 21, 2010

Michaela had swim practice tonight. I changed into sweats before we went. I spent about half an hour on the track at the Y while Michaela was swimming. I had my iPod and turned it up loud. I did a fast aerobic type walk for the first song. I slowed down for the second song and then sped up again for the third and so on. I followed this pattern through 10 songs. Then, I stretched out for another song. It actually felt good to do this. I am really glad I did it.

I am going to try to do this at least once a week from now on. In a couple weeks I start water aerobics again, so if I do the track once a week, water aerobics once a week and Caleb and I swim once a week then I will be getting a lot more exercise then I am used to. Hopefully, that will help me lose at least a little weight.

Wednesday, October 20, 2010

October 20, 2010

Sometimes I stop and look at my life and seriously cannot believe I am where I am. I grew up dreaming of having my own family. It really was my biggest dream. I thought about it all the time while I was growing up. I worked hard to do the right thing most of the time because I did not want any of my actions to come back and bite me in the butt and keep me from having the life I wanted.

Now, here I am living that life. Michael and I are getting close to our 16th anniversary and I love him so much. I am in awe over the fact that he loves me. He is an amazing person and a super husband and father. How I got so lucky to find him so early in my life, I'll never know. God really did bless me in that area.

Michaela is 11 and Caleb is 8 so I've been a mom for well over 11 years now. My life is amazing.

Tuesday, October 19, 2010

October 19, 2010

It's Tuesday. I hate Tuesdays. I hate staff meetings. I'm glad this Tuesday is over.

Michaela's swim practice was tonight. There's a very obnoxious man who is there now. He irritated me tonight. It's a good thing I had my iPod with me.

Monday, October 18, 2010

October 18, 2010

This year is mid term elections. In Missouri we are voting on Proposition B which is calling itself the "puppy mill" bill. They have been showing horrible pictures of abused and neglected dogs in horrible living conditions on commercials supporting this proposition. They even have Tony Larussa on television supporting it, although what he has to do with it I don't know since he doesn't even LIVE in Missouri. I guess it's that "let's use a celebrity because people are persuaded by them" tactic. Not sure why people think celebrities are so much smarter than other people.

I'm really tired of these commercials. They have put TONS of money into this campaign. It's so ludicrous. If a person reads the proposition, REALLY reads it, they will see that the wording in the actual proposition DOES NOT limit itself to dogs/puppies. It is written vaguely which means it addresses ALL animals that are owned by humans. There is a reason for this. It leaves the door open for HSUS and other such entities to enact strict restrictions on law abiding animal owners.

The state of MO ALREADY HAS laws in place to address the problem of puppy mills. There is no need for extra legislation. Piling legislation on top of legislation does not create situations where those who do wrong are brought to justice more or faster, it just takes away the rights of the people who abide by the laws.

It really is disheartening how so many people in this country are so willing to hand over their rights that so many people died for so we could live in our own way. There is going to come a day when we no longer get to vote because we voted that right away, too.

Sunday, October 17, 2010

October 17, 2010

It was a stay at home day! We did not even go to church today. I did go to Wal-mart and do some shopping, but that was something that I could do whenever I wanted. It was so nice to have a whole day where we did not have to be anywhere at any specific time.

I did a lot of laundry today. I also swept and mopped all the mopable floors in the house. Tonight I made pork chops for dinner. I have a roast beef in the crock pot for tomorrow night's dinner. And, I got caught up on uploading pictures to one of my picture web sties. At least from what I had on my hard drive. I have some pictures on one of my cards that I need to upload yet, but not tons.

The kids did their chores today, too. The rest of the day they just hung out and did kid things.

Michael worked out in the yard most of the day.

It was just a normal day at home and that is a great thing.

Saturday, October 16, 2010

October 16, 2010

It was another busy Saturday. Stacey dropped Lauren off at our house this morning so we could take her to the football game with us. Caleb's game was in Chesterfield this week. I just really don't like it when we play them. They lost again. It's very sad to say, but I'll just be glad when this season is over. It's been painful to watch. But, Caleb still has been having fun. Just one more week of it.

We met Lauren's grandparents at McDonald's on 94 and Mid Rivers so we could give Lauren back to them. Then, we headed home.

When we got home Caleb got in the shower and I went up to my mom's. She is letting us have a basket to donate for Michaela's swim team fundraiser.

Then, it was time to take Caleb over to Chase's house. He is spending the night over there tonight. I stayed around and talked to Lisa as long as I could. I really enjoy talking to her, she is a lot of fun.

When I got home, it was time for Michaela and I to leave. We went to see "Night at the Wax Museum" at the community college. It was a really good play this year. Much better than last year. I really enjoyed it. Michaela did too. They did a great job with it this year.

Michael was on his own tonight. He went out to work to get pictures taken of the equipment they are putting on auction online. He's such a party animal.

Friday, October 15, 2010

October 15, 2010

I am really glad it's Friday. Michaela did not have swim practice tonight because there is a swim meet this weekend and the coaches are there. We probably should have gone in and swam anyway, but we took advantage of the fact that we did not have to go anywhere tonight.

We ordered a pizza from Stefanina's. That way I did not have to cook and we still got to stay home. We all just vegged out here at home for the evening. It was nice to not have to hurry off somewhere.

Thursday, October 14, 2010

October 14, 2010

I did not go to work today. I took a personal day. This morning I went with Michaela to her school. They were having pastries with parents this morning. Last year I tried to do this with her before work and it just didn't work because I would have been late. I promised her last year I would do my best to be there for it this year. So, I was able to keep my promise on that. It was cool going in to school with her.

When I left her at school, I went to the grocery store. It took me less than an hour to get the grocery shopping done. It goes so much faster when I'm by myself. It was busy because it's Thursday, but it wasn't as bad as it will be tonight.

After I got home and put away the groceries, I paid some bills. I also got the bank statement reconciled. It felt good to get that done.

By then it was lunch time. I went to Taco Bell to get lunch. I came home with it and turned on Haven to watch it while I ate. I remember eating, but I don't remember lying down. I woke up an hour and a half later and had not even realized I'd fallen asleep. I really think I needed that nap. I'm just really emotionally and physically spent from work this year. I haven't felt this kind of stress since the second principal we had at this building.

This evening was Michaela's swim practice. Michael got home in time to take Caleb to football practice. I talked with the mom who is a first grade teacher, too a lot tonight. I really like her. It is her daughter's first year on the swim team, too.

I wish I didn't have to go to work tomorrow, either. But, at least it's Friday tomorrow.

October 13, 2010

My baby brother turned 34 today.

Michael had to stay at work late tonight. The kids and I just hung out around the house. I decided to not do the grocery shopping because I'm not going to work tomorrow so I can do it tomorrow.

The first miner in Chile has been rescued! The world has been waiting weeks to see this happen and I'm so glad I was watching the news when they brought the first miner to the surface. It is so great to see him come out safe and alive. His family was there to greet him. He's been trapped for 69 days. They say it will be about another 48 hours before they are all out. They are drinking a high calorie diet thing donated by NASA to keep them from throwing up on their journey up the evacuation tube.

October 11, 2010

Gosh my students were off today. One of them was so stubborn I had to call his mother twice today. His attitude was just horrible. Another one just refused to pay attention. When I finally turned her desk around so she could not play in it and asked her to pay attention to something she sat with her hands over her face. Another one decided to throw a temper tantrum like a two year old. All of this and I had one absent and two gone to the gifted program. I'm just really glad this school day is over.

I spent a little over an hour at Caleb's football practice tonight. It was nice to sit and watch for a while. I have not gotten to do that this year before now. I just wish this had been a better experience for Michael and Caleb this year. It really hurts that it hasn't been a great experience for them.

October 10, 2010

Today was the first time in three weeks that we went to church. One of Michaela's friends she met at swim team went with us. Michaela spent the night with her last night and she came home with Michaela so she could go to church with us. She went out to eat with us, too. She's a very nice girl and she seems to really like Michaela. Michaela adores her. I enjoyed having her with us.

This afternoon I worked on laundry and work stuff. Michael worked on taking down the pool. He actually destroyed the pool. It was getting ready to fall apart anyway. I don't think we would have gotten another summer out of it. The liner was disintegrating and the poles were rusting.

I made toasted ravioli for supper tonight. I also got stew made for tomorrow night's supper. I like it when I can do that. It's so nice to know that when I come home from work tomorrow I do not have to make supper.

October 9, 2010

Caleb's team lost again today. It's really sad. I feel so badly for those boys. I think they are really confused at this point.

Michaela is spending the night with her friend from the swim team. She was very excited about this. I hope she has fun. The girl and her mom both seem like very nice people.

Tonight, Michael, Caleb and I went to Red Robin for supper. Yum! Then, we went to Wal-mart. Michael got to exchange his boots for the ones he wanted. He looked at the hats but did not find one he liked.

Now, I'm lounging in my pj bottoms and a comfy shirt watching the Mizzou game and switching to the Blues game during commercials. Mizzou is beating Colorado U. 26 - 0 with only a couple minutes left to play. The Blues are tied 1 - 1 early in the 3rd.

October 8, 2010

The substitute that was in my classroom yesterday is useless. He let my students tear up my room and some library books. I'm not sure what he did to try and control them, but he obviously did not let them know he was in charge. I am just not happy with that person at all. He said my class was the worst class he's ever seen. He needs to see them when they are with me. They don't give that many problems to the art, music, and gym teachers, or any of the other teachers in the building. It is kind of sad that a grown man cannot control 19 first graders.

Michaela had swim practice tonight. She is having her period and had to learn to use tampons this week. It is distressing her, but she does not want to miss swim practice. She is still learning to deal with this and how to manage it as it is only her second one. I feel badly for her because it can be stressful, but it is something she has to get used to. Both her coaches were very kind to her and helped her through the night. I really like them both, they are great with the kids.

October 7, 2010

Today I had training all day for DIBELs. At first I thought maybe it was silly for me to be there because I already know how to administer DIBELs. But, I did learn some new things and found out I had been doing one of the measures not completely correct. I also found out I was not there to learn how to train the other teachers in my building but to be on a "swat team" that will be responsible for administering the measures to ALL our students. Oh joy.

Tonight Michaela had swim practice and Caleb had football practice. There's only about two weeks of football left now. Since Caleb's team has not won a game yet, they do not have a chance to be in the playoffs.

I talked to one of the other moms at swim practice tonight. She's a first grade teacher, too. I really enjoy talking with her. She's also got a little girl who is deaf that is so much fun to talk to. I got a little work done on my presentation for our staff meeting at the end of the month, but not much.

October 6, 2010

I found out today that Mr. Coleman was moved to the other building to teach 6th grade there. I also found out that that building is going to become a 6th grade center next school year. Everyone seems to think that Coleman will become the principal there. Interesting developments if nothing else.

Caleb went to Chase's house after school today so I had to pick him up from there. As usual, I passed up the street to turn on to go get Caleb there. I don't know what I do that, but I do it EVERY time. This time I caught it before I got too far, but still I had to turn around.

Michael had to go out to the old building for his work to take pictures of the equipment they are going to auction off tonight. So, the kids went with me to do the grocery shopping. That's all we had to do tonight. No practice for anyone.

October 5, 2010

Well, we were told today that we are not moving to the new school in January. It was like a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. I have been so stressed over having to pack up and leave and move in the middle of the school year, especially since they would not tell us who was going or what the selection process would be. It seems anyone who wants to go will have to apply for a position there. It may be that we all have to re-apply for our jobs. That would suck.

In any case, I have emailed Mr. Hudson asking for a letter of reference. I figure if I'm going to have to go through an application process anyway, I might as well try other places as well. I really don't think I'm going to apply for the new school, though. I just feel very stressed this year and feel like that stress would follow me if I went there.

Monday, October 4, 2010

October 4, 2010

I cried on my way to work today. I haven't cried going to work since Mr. Shields was principal. I just am not enjoying working with our new principal. She puts me on edge. I am not sure why. She has not said anything negative to me or done anything negative to me. I just am having a hard time trusting what she says.

On the other hand, I'm really enjoying my class this year. They are a great group of kids. I've had several pretty good years recently, but this group is even better. I got very lucky with them this year and I really hope they do not take them away from me in January. That would make me very sad.

Tonight was Michaela's girl scout meeting. They had it at Leftovers. We had to drop Caleb off at the park first because Michael was running behind. We also had to stop and get snacks for the meeting. They started working on their photography badge tonight. They will go back in two weeks to work on it again. Michaela used my camera.

While she was at her meeting I went to Wal-mart. I needed paper for work and was going to get some potting soil so my students can plant their beans tomorrow. But, Wal-mart did not have any potting soil out anymore. I guess I'll have to look somewhere else tomorrow.

October 3, 2010

Today was Michael's 43rd birthday. We got him Rams pj bottoms, Rams long sleeve t-shirt, Mizzou hat that does not fit, Boots he doesn't like and candy corn and twizzlers. We'll get him another hat and he can take the boots back and get what he wants.

We went to the Botanical Gardens today for their Best of Missouri Market. It was a cool day with some wind that made it chilly in the shade. They had lots of interesting stuff to look at and some really cool venders.

There was also a children's corner. Michaela got to build a battery organizer and Caleb got to make a football stand. They got to make hats and see alpacas and llamas. Michaela even milked a cow.

We walked through the Japanese Garden, English Woodland Garden and the gardens by Shaw's house. The kids went through the maze, too.

This evening we went out to eat with Michael's parents. When we got home from the Botanical Gardens, we picked them up and drove down to Chesterfield Valley to eat at The Old Spaghetti Factory. It was yummy!!!

It was a really good day.

October 2, 2010

Today was Michaela's first swim meet. Boy what an experience. It was exhausting, but a lot of fun. We had to leave the house by 6:30 because she had to be there by 7:30 a.m. We stopped to get money and breakfast and then we headed to Elsah, IL.

The sun was beautiful coming up this morning. We had a beautiful view as we came across the bridge into Alton. There is something peaceful about being out early in the morning before most other people are up and about, even if it is on a Saturday.

We got to the place where the swim meet was being held (Principia College) right on time. That is when I realized we were supposed to have brought chairs with us. Michaela forgot a towel (luckily I had one in the van) and her goggles. We bought goggles at the vender that was set up there. We also should have brought more than one towel, something warm for her to wear between events and maybe more food.

I ended up buying her flannel pants, a sweat shirt and two micro fiber towels between events. At least I've learned what all to pack for these things and will be more prepared next time around.

It was a whirlwind of activity today. By the time Michaela was out of the pool from her first event, they were calling for her second event to go to the staging area. She swam four events today. She got a DQ on her first but she finished it and it was 200 meters. She came in 5th out of 8 in her second and 15th out of 16 in her third. Not sure about her last event.

We were both really tired, but it she was done about 3 1/2 hours sooner than I had thought at first. This meant Michael and Caleb did not get to come see any of the activity. But, Caleb's game was over about the same time so we met them at Applebee's here in town for supper.

This evening we're just hanging out around here. I was able to get laundry started.

October 1, 2010

Today was a staff development day. Our principal conducted it. I really feel like she thinks we know nothing about teaching. It's getting a little irritating, but I guess it could be tons worse. There were a few very interesting things that happened during the day, things I'm going to keep a close eye on from now on.

One thing that really bothered me was that we started on time, but yet we did not end until half an hour late. Also, we were only given 45 minutes for lunch instead of an hour. We had a staff meeting on Tuesday (this is the first time ever I've had a principal that has staff meetings on the same week as a PD day) and we have another staff meeting on this coming Tuesday. The meeting we had this week got out pretty much on time. However, next week it's a combined staff meeting and we have yet to get out of those before 5:00.

Michaela had swim practice tonight. They practiced going off the blocks. She didn't do super great at it, but she was making progress just the same. It made her nervous and she's decided to go off the wall for her meet tomorrow.

Thursday, September 30, 2010

September 30, 2010

September is over and the week is almost over. Tomorrow is Friday, but I am not looking forward to it at all. Tomorrow is a PD day and I really do not like those. They are so tedious most times. Hopefully, tomorrow will prove to not be of the norm. We'll see.

Both kids had practice tonight. Michaela got to have swim practice in the pool at our Y tonight. They have the pool full now. So, there will be no more trips out to the O'Fallon Y anymore. I'm very glad for that.

September 29, 2010

I cannot even believe how tired I am. Our schedule is really wearing me out. I am really glad there was no practices tonight. Michael went to do the grocery shopping, too, so I could get some work done like grading some papers.

I am happy because this life is what I wanted when I was growing up. I wanted my own family and I wanted to be involved like this. I did not realize how much it could take out of you, though. But, I wouldn't give it up for anything in the world. I love being a wife and mom. I got really lucky and have a great husband and incredible kids.

Tuesday, September 28, 2010

September 28, 2010

Tonight was the last night Michaela will have to be at swim practice by 5:30. Thank goodness. That has been really tough. I don't know what we would have done without Michael's parents helping us out with this. They've been helping out with Caleb on Tuesdays too. They have been a Godsend to us ever since Michaela was born as far as being able to help out with the kids. They are wonderful grandparents.

Hopefully, at some point I'll be able to get back into a water aerobics class. We'll see. I need to get back to exercising and not stop this time. I've gained back all the weight I lost last year.

Monday, September 27, 2010

September 27, 2010

My principal came in to observe today. She was there for about 15 minutes. She left me a stack of sticky notes with her thoughts on them. It seems like she liked what she saw when she was in there. I feel the lesson went really well. My students did a great job. I was happy with them. We were learning how to write our own addition sentences.

September 26, 2010

We went apple picking today. It was very cool, almost cold. The wind on the river as we took the ferry across was uncomfortable. The apples were not as nice this year as they have been the past several years, but we had fun anyway. I love going up there to pick apples. Sometime I think maybe we should try the other orchard up there, just to see what it is like.

After we were finished apple picking, we drove up to Pere Marquette. The kids had never been there before. We ate in the restaurant there. It wasn't the best experience, but the food was good.

The kids played with the giant chess set. Michaela seems to know how to play some, but she is confused over the queen and king in the game. I don't know how to play but I do know that the queen is supposed to be in control and Michaela thinks it's the king. Papa tried to tell her it was the queen, but she didn't want to listen.

When we got home we did things around the house. It was just a very nice day.

Saturday, September 25, 2010

September 25, 2010

Caleb had a football game today. They lost again. Michaela was not there. Her grandmother took her to her swim practice out at the O'Fallon YMCA so I could go to Caleb's game.
Next week I won't get to see Caleb's game because I will be at Michaela's first ever swim meet. I am feeling mixed emotions about this. It's supposed to be a lengthy day and we have to get up very early to be there, but I'm excited to see how she does.

September 24, 2010

Tonight was very stress full for me. I am so tired. I have been just dragging all day. I was having a hard time keeping my eyes open even when I was standing up and moving around the room at work. I have no idea what my problem was today. I mean yes, I expect to be tired with all we have going on right now but I literally was falling asleep on my feet.

Then, when I got home we had to rush to get ready and go out to O'Fallon for Michaela's swim practice. We left a few minutes early because last Friday we cut it a little close. Well that did no good because there was an accident on 70 that had us just sitting on the highway for about 20 minutes. It actually put me in tears because I am just that tired.

Once we got moving I was feeling a little better, but I knew that it would not be too easy going down Highway K once we got into O'Fallon. Well, it was worse than I expected. There was another accident in the left lane on Highway K at one of the stop lights. I started to feel like we were never going to get there.

Walt was behind us and let us over in the lane that was moving. That was really nice of him because he'd already let about 4 people over. But, we finally got there about 10 minutes late.

Then, my battery died while we were there. Again, Walt came to my rescue. He found someone with jumper cables and then helped that person jump start my van. I guess tomorrow we go buy a new battery for my van.

September 23, 2010

It's been a very busy evening. I had to drop Michaela off at swim practice. Then, take Caleb to football practice and wait there for a few minutes before walking across to Caleb's school to have conference with Caleb's teacher. I ended up talking to her for about 50 minutes. I really like her a lot.

Next, I had to rush across the park to where I was park (grabbing Michaela along the way because Stacey had brought her there when she brought Lauren to cheer practice) and beat feet to Michaela's school. I had about 10 minutes to do all this.

Michaela's teachers both love her. I enjoyed my talk with both of them. This was a shorter conference because they were swamped with parents.

Michaela and I got something to eat on the way home. Now I want to just collapse.

Wednesday, September 22, 2010

September 22, 2010

I went to Melting Pot for ladies night tonight. There were 7 of us that showed up this time. One of my co-workers went with us. It was so much fun. I just love it when we go there. I love the food, the company and the atmosphere. It just really gives us a chance to relax and enjoy each others company.

Michael and the kids went to White Castle for supper and then did the grocery shopping. He's such a great husband and dad.

Tuesday, September 21, 2010

September 21, 2010

This has the makings of a very long week. I am so glad tomorrow night is my night out with the girls. I need some time to unwind and forget about work for a while.

Monday, September 20, 2010

September 20, 2010

Tonight, Michaela bridged to Cadettes in girl scouts. She received her bronze award, too. I got to be part of the ceremony and that was cool. I'm really proud of her.

After the ceremony, the girls were given cupcakes so I went up to the park. Since, the girl scout meetings are at Null, I can walk up to McNair. I went up to see what Jody had to say to the parents since I couldn't stay until she got there earlier.

Then, I ran home and got the badge book for junior girl scouts. I promised it to another mom that is in Vicky's younger troop. I also needed the check book so I could pay for Michaela's girl scout registration for this year.

When, I got back to Null, I went up to the park again first. I went to see about ordering more jerseys or at least sweat shirts. I walked away not ordering anything. They cannot get the jerseys until the season is pretty much over. And, the sweat shirts were just too expensive.

So, I went back to the girl scout meeting. I filled out Michaela's registration and mine. The girls were just about done with their meeting so we got to come home.

I'm really tired and this whole week is going to be like tonight.

Sunday, September 19, 2010

September 19, 2010

The rain ruined our plans for today. We had planned on going Apple Picking today. It rained/stormed all night and was still storming this morning.

We stayed home today instead. I worked on laundry and stuff for school. I also made four meals today. When I made lunch I made sloppy joes for lunch and also got beef stew started for supper tomorrow night. Then, when I made supper, I made spaghetti for supper tonight and a chicken casserole for supper on Tuesday night. This way supper is taken care of until Wednesday.

It was nice to be able to get so much done, but I'm bummed that we did not get to go apple picking. Hopefully, we'll be able to go in a couple weeks.

Saturday, September 18, 2010

September 18, 2010

Today was another busy day.

This morning I managed to get the sheets changed and get laundry started. I also packed a lunch for Michaela and I in my bag I got from the zoo for being a Zoo Friends member.

Then, Michaela and I went up to West to pick up Lauren so we could take her to the park for the Titan's football game.

The football game was very painful again today. I think they played even worse than they did last week. It was pathetic and we lost horribly again. I think this is going to be a very painful season.

Michaela and I came home for just a few minutes after the game. I needed to change my shirt because it got very warm today and wearing that football jersey was a bit much.

Then, Michaela and I were off to swim practice. Michaela forgot her towel so I called Michael. He and Caleb got to swim practice about 10 minutes before it was over.

Once Michaela came out from the locker room, we decided to go get something to eat. We went to Applebee's on 94. We were all really hungry so it was good to get some really food in our bellies.

After that we came home. I did some laundry. I tried to do some stuff for work but I could not focus. Michael fell asleep and slept until it was almost time for the kids to go to bed. I'm really tired and will be glad when it's time to go to sleep.

Friday, September 17, 2010

September 17, 2010

Tonight was the first Friday of swim practice. I had to take Michaela out to the Y in O'Fallon. Wow, that place is like a spa. It's a very nice Y.

A very strange thing happened tonight while I was there. I was sitting at a table trying to read a book for work. There was another woman sitting there talking on the telephone. I heard her mention Rainbow Girls. When she hung up I got nosy and asked her about it. She confirmed that she was talking about the assembly in St. Charles.

I told her that the mother adviser there is my sister-in-law. She explained that she is pledge mother. And, she said that the person she'd been talking to on the phone was my sister-in-law! LOL! That was so weird.

I texted Karen to tell her I knew who she'd been talking to. It was funny.

Thursday, September 16, 2010

September 16, 2010

Holy Cow! It was a busy night for me. This was my day from the time my students went home until now:

  • Short staff meeting
  • Drive home in traffic
  • Get Caleb at latch key
  • Home long enough to get Michaela and have Caleb get his football gear
  • Stopped to pick up Lauren
  • Took girls to swim practice
  • Took Caleb to football practice and waited for Michael to show up
  • Went back to swim practice and waited for it to be over
  • Had Michaela get her Y membership card
  • Went back to the park so Lauren could go to cheer practice
  • After talking to other football moms for a little, went to Taco Bell.

Now, I'm eating my Taco Bell waiting for the time the kids are in bed so I can take a shower and go to bed.

Wednesday, September 15, 2010

September 15, 2010

It's the middle of the week and it feels like it should be Friday already. We all were home this evening so I actually got to make supper and we got to sit at the table together. It doesn't happen much lately. I made taco salad.

The big scottie that lives in our neighborhood was walking down the street when we were getting ready to clean up after supper and Michael noticed him. He said something about it and it just made me start crying. I miss Abby so much still. I miss having a dog in the house. It hurts not having her here. I think it must really be sinking in with me. It's just seemed so surreal up until now that she is gone.

It's more than that, too. I just hate not having a dog in the house. No dog will ever replace Abby, she was one of a kind and I will always lover her so much, but the house just isn't the same without a dog to come home to. I hate not having a dog to love.

I did the grocery shopping tonight. Michael mowed the neighbor's yard. The kids got to play outside and enjoy not having to be anywhere.

When I was in the car, I started crying again. It's not just Abby. Things at work have really gotten stressful. I've been trying so hard to not let it get to me, but it is starting to take it's toll. I hate not knowing what's going to happen, but then again, I'm really scared of finding out. Our principal has called a staff meeting for tomorrow which really upset me because I promised Michaela I would be at her practice tomorrow. I'm going to somehow make it all work, but it's stressing me more.

Anyway, I guess it all just came to a head tonight when I was on the way to the grocery store. I read a thing today that said to turn off everything and listen to God. So, I tried it. At one moment when I was crying and driving in my silent van, I got this overwhelming sense of peace and just a knowing that everything is going to be alright. At one moment it was so strong it took my breath away. I wish that moment would have lasted longer, but it was enough to calm me down and make me feel better. I guess the whole talking to God without any interruptions thing works. I am feeling better.

Tuesday, September 14, 2010

September 14, 2010

Tonight was open house at my school. It went pretty well. I wish we'd had more parents show up, but the ones that did show up were a lot of fun to talk to and they seemed to enjoy my power point presentation. I hope they did anyway. I got compliments on it from my co-workers.

I ate an early supper with some of them this afternoon. Actually, mine was more a snack because I wasn't that hungry at the time. We had so much fun talking and joking around. I really enjoy my co-workers. They are a great bunch of people.

Michaela said she had a good swim practice. It sounds funny calling it that when it was dry land, but she seemed to enjoy herself. Her grandparents picked her up here and took her because I had to be at work until 7:30 tonight.

I am really tired so I hope I sleep well. I am glad there is nothing more than grocery shopping that has to be done tomorrow night.

Monday, September 13, 2010

September 13, 2010

Monday reared it's ugly head again this week. This is going to be a school year in which Mondays are hard. At least I have a group of children in my class that I just really love already. They are all so sweet. I've got my work cut out for me with a few of them, but that's ok when they are so lovable.

I just wish I were not so tired right now. I've started taking some B12 on top of my multi-vitamin hoping it'll help with the energy level. We'll see.

Tonight, Michaela and I went to get her shorts for swim practice. They have to have two pairs of shorts to wear during swim practice. It strengthens them while swimming. Plus they get used to swimming with that extra layer and then when they swim with just their suit for meets they'll be faster. At least that's the theory, I think. In any case she starts swim practice with dry land exercises tomorrow night.

Sunday, September 12, 2010

September 12, 2010

Today was the parents' meeting for the swim team. Wow, what a commitment this is turning out to be. It looks like I'm going to be even busier than I thought. After looking over football schedule and swim meet schedule, I talked to Michaela and she has agreed that if she can do the first meet we'd kind of hang back and just do practices until at least November. This means I only have to miss one football game and she'll still have AMPLE opportunity to be a part of swim meets because swimming goes until June.

For now, she has day land practice at our Y on Tuesday and Thursdays for an hour. Then, she has pool practice on Fridays and Saturdays at the O'Fallon Y. This will last for about 2 1/2 weeks. Then, she'll have practice on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, with dry land happening for part of the time on Fridays.

It is going to be a very busy fall for us. I'm really kind of glad swimming didn't start earlier and that football is not any longer.

Saturday, September 11, 2010

September 11, 2010

Today was Caleb's first football game for this season. They got cremated. Chesterfield beat them 38 -0. It was painful to watch. Hopefully, we'll do better the rest of the season.

We've had Lauren with us all day. Jake had a band competition, so Stacey dropped Lauren off at our house at 10:00 a.m. so she could cheer at our game. She came home with us and is spending the night tonight.

We were going to give her back to Stacey at pictures for the football team tomorrow, but those have been canceled. Instead, we're giving her back at the swim team parents' meeting.

It's been a lot of fun having her around. She has really come out of her shell and just has such a cute personality. I love how she laughs at our jokes. She's just so cute.

Friday, September 10, 2010

September 10, 2010

Tonight was the pub crawl for Caleb's football team. We had a lot of fun. I got very drunk and silly, but it was a lot of fun. There was a sea of gold Titan t-shirts swarming around Main Street. It was really great to see all those people down there with Titan Gold on. Jody did a really good job organizing it. I'm really glad we went.

It's finally Thursday. I've been so confused about the days of the week this week. I guess having Monday off and not having students on Tuesday has just thrown me off like crazy this week. I kept thinking that Wednesday was going to be Thursday. Now, Thursday is over. yeah! Tomorrow is Friday!!!

September 8, 2010

Tonight I did the grocery shopping. Grocery shopping is just going to have to be done on Wednesdays instead of Tuesdays, at least for a while. It is the only day of the week we won't have things going on.

Michaela went to football practice with Michael and Caleb. They were supposed to have a scrimmage game, but it didn't happen. Michaela was bored and called me just as I was finishing up making myself some soup. So, I put that on hold and went to pick her up. They were just finishing up practice when I got there. I guess she could have waited, but I could not sit down and enjoy my soup when I knew she wanted to come home.

September 7, 2010

Today was a PD day at work so there were no students. We had our PD at Pine Lawn Community Center. Our new principal has been doing this since she's supervising two schools. It was actually a pretty good PD. I feel like someone takes it seriously that when they want something from us they have to do all they can to make themselves clear. In that aspect, I feel more respected than I have in a long time as far as professionalism goes.

This evening was Caleb's football opening ceremonies. It was a nice evening. The weather was very nice and of course the boys and the cheerleaders were excited to get a chance to show off some. The cheerleaders did a GREAT job! I got a couple really good pictures of the cheerleaders while they were doing their routine.

September 6, 2010

Today the four of us spent the day together at the zoo. It was a lot of fun. We saw most of the animals. The hippos were fun today. There were about four of them out in their habitat today and they were all swimming around and active. I got a couple really cool pictures of their heads sticking out of the water.

We got to go in to see the penguins and puffins this time. I love seeing them. They are one of my favorite exhibits to visit.

The sting ray exhibit was still open so we went in there again. Michael had not seen them yet so it was cool watching him experience that for the first time. Michaela got to feed them. She really enjoyed that.

We also went through the centennial exhibit. They have a room at the end of the bird house that they've turned into a little mini museum that portrays the 100 years that the zoo has been open. That was very interesting.

We rode the train today and the kids rode the carousel. It was a really great day.

This evening I've been working on a few things for work and doing laundry.

September 5, 2010

Today we went to O'Charley's to have lunch with Michael's parents after church. It was a nice lunch. We had a nice talk and enjoyed each other's company.

After lunch we went to Johnny Mac's to get Caleb some football pants. He needed new black game pants. He will need them come Saturday because his first game is next Saturday. He also needed new gloves because he's lost his. Apparently, he lost them at the scrimmage game last week and waited until now to say something instead of then when we could have looked for them.

The rest of the day the kids and I worked on cleaning the house. I also worked on laundry. Then, tonight I made tuna casserole for supper. I did not realize it was going to be so emotional. But, when I opened the tuna I realized the last time I made tuna casserole was the last time Abby got tuna as a treat. It just really hit me hard that she was not there to enjoy the tuna this time. I miss her so much.

September 4, 2010

Today we went to the Arch Rivalry game. It's a game that has been an on again, off again tradition between Mizzou and Illinois State during Labor Day weekend. This is supposed to be the last one, but it may be back in a few years, who knows.

Anyway, it was REALLY fun! The atmosphere in the dome was so friendly. It was great to see fans from both sides just enjoying the game and really enjoying each other, too.

The game was really exciting. It started out not so good for Mizzou. But, by the second half they were more into the game and ended up winning 23 - 13. It was a nail biter, but it was so much fun.

I went to Kohl's this morning before the game to get another shirt. I could not take the other shirt back because JCP doesn't open until 10:00. I found a t-shirt and a baseball cap.

After we got home from the game I went and did some shopping at Wal-mart. I was really proud of myself. I did not stray from my list hardly at all and when I did it was because I remembered things that we really needed. I also was home in less than an hour.

I made spaghetti for supper tonight. It was good and it was nice to have supper at home.

Michael and Caleb went to Jeremy and Kelly's tonight for the fantasy football draft. Michaela and I stayed home and had a girls' night. We popped popcorn and watched "Pretty in Pink." It was Michaela's first time seeing a Molly Ringwald movie. It was a special mother/daughter time. We ended up having time to watch "Legally Blond" too.

September 3, 2010

It's Friday!!! And, this is a three day weekend! I am really glad this week is over. It will be nice to have three days off this weekend. It will be the only day off we have until Thanksgiving.

Tonight, Michael had to be at work late again. They are having trouble getting machinery in place. It's been a long week for him because of his company moving to Highland. He's not happy about this move and I don't blame him. It pretty much sucks.

The kids and I went and had supper at Wendy's close to the mall tonight. Then, we went to the mall. We were in search of Mizzou shirts for tomorrow. We were going to go to the Mizzou store, but it is closed, so we went to JC Penney instead. Michaela got a black shirt with a tiger head made of yellow and white rhinestones. Caleb got a gold jersey. We got Michael a gray t-shirt with a Mizzou helmet on it. I got a long sleeved t-shirt that has a layered look to it.

When we got home I tried on my shirt and it's too tight. I guess tomorrow morning I try to take it back. I'm really disappointed that it does not fit. I couldn't try it on with the kids with me, though.

September 2, 2010

I felt better at work today. Keeping focused on my religion really does help. I am going to work on that and just be grateful for the positive things in my life. I cannot control how other people act, think, or what they say. I can however control how I react to everything. So, that's what I am trying to do. It's not easy.

Caleb's team had a scrimmage game against the Boy's Club team tonight. Caleb is playing offense. It was raining some earlier. Then, they had to call off the game because the lightening got too close. No one had scored yet. Caleb enjoyed himself. It was fun for me too.

Michael had to be at work late again tonight because they were loading up the equipment and machines to be moved to Highland. I guess they are going to convoy out there tomorrow with everything.

I'm glad tomorrow is Friday and we have a three day weekend.

September 1, 2010

Ok, so work was VERY stressful today. The kids were very difficult and the stress of the year just really got to me today. I cannot let this stress get to me like it did my second year at this building did. I will not allow work stress to put me in that place again.

So, I have taken some time tonight to read some devotionals. I am going to do the same in the morning. I am also switching my iPod to Christian music for a while at least. I need to really keep my mind and heart on God to get me through all this. I don't want to become a depressed, angry, upset mess. It would be very easy to fall into that this year, but I'm going to do everything I know to keep from letting that happen.

Michael did not get home until late tonight. They are getting ready to move to Highland. It's another thing that has been causing stress in our house. He is not happy about it and I don't blame him. I wish I could do something about it for him, but it's really out of my hands which is hard to deal with by itself.

Tuesday, August 31, 2010

August 31, 2010

I did not get home until it was time for Michael and Caleb to leave for practice tonight. I wish our staff meetings would end sooner. I was so tired when I got home. I really couldn't think about anything.

Luckily, Michael was able to come home normal time tonight so he could pick up Caleb from latch key. I am going to go to bed early tonight. I will be going to bed right after the kids are tucked in.

August 30, 2010

Well, I felt so stressed out this weekend, that I was glad to go back to work and be in the regular week routine. It was an o.k. day. I started assessing my students' reading skills today. I ran out of the forms, though. I am going to see about making copies myself because copies are not coming back from the copy center for some reason.

It did feel good to be back in the routine, though.

August 29, 2010

Today I spent most of the day working on stuff for work and doing laundry. I was trying to get most of it done before Kay came home with my mom. Of course, mom tried to make it as difficult as possible for me to see Kay. Every time there's a chance at a meal together, my mom tries to monopolize it.

As usual she was going to have a meal from a place she knows I do not like. I understand that Kay mentioned it, but when I called, I don't know why it was so hard for her to ask Kay about changing plans. Oh, no, instead, it was all about, well you can just come over while we eat what we want and sit in my smoke smelly apartment and just take the "left overs" of time. It's just very infuriating.

Anyway, it all worked out that we met them, Brandon and Karen at Pasta House. Brandon didn't even know Kay was home. Hell, he didn't even know about the family reunion. Yet, mom gets mad at him for not calling her and for focusing on dad's side of the family.

It was great talking to Kay, though. Gosh, I miss her. I miss the times I spent with her and Kathy growing up. I hate that Kay lives in California. But, I loved spending those couple of hours with her.

August 28, 2010

Today was GS camp day. This year we were at Camp Cedarledge for camp. It's an absolutely BEAUTIFUL camp. But, it is very large. It takes a long time to walk anywhere. We definitely got our exercise in today, especially when we walked to the lake. It took 15 minutes just to walk from our lodge to the parking lot. It was worth the walking though because, as I said, it's just beautiful there.

The girls got to do archery this year. That was a lot of fun. It's been forever since I shot an arrow. Michaela did pretty good. Actually, all the girls did really well at it. I was impressed.

They did crafts, went canoeing and went swimming. By the time we got to the pool we were all very hot from walking from the lake. I was so ready to get in the pool. However, the water was REALLY COLD. Not refreshing cold, but COLD. But, I did get cooled off. At one point I had to jump in completely, because a bee was attacking me. It sounded like a jumbo jet in my ear.

The meals were really good this year, too. The planning committee did a great job with everything. I really like the day time activities. I just do not enjoy sleeping there at all. So, Michaela and I left after the bonfire tonight.

As we were getting in the van Michaela said she had to go to the rest room. Well, the closest one was right before we got on the highway. While we were there, Michaela discovered she had started her first period. That explains why she was such a huge grouch last night and earlier in the day. It was actually a pretty anti-climatic moment for us. But, my little girl is no longer a little girl.

I am really glad we decided to come home. It would have been really embarrassing for her if we'd have had to ask around all over the place for a pad. Plus, it meant less time spent around the people I am not comfortable around.

One of the people who I was working at not being angry at again, said something very mean to Michaela tonight. Michaela really has no idea how I feel about this person or why. I've not told her because I want her to not have negative feelings towards this person. But, I am about done with this person. I am just really upset that this person thought she had a right to alienate my daughter, again. I just have lost all respect for this person.

In any case, it is good to be home. I am going to really enjoy sleeping in my own bed tonight.

Friday, August 27, 2010

August 27, 2010

It is Friday. It was a good day at work. Then, I had to come home and rush around to get things ready to leave for GS Camp.

Michaela and I stopped at Wal-mart to get drinks and snacks first. Then, we went to Lee's to eat supper. After eating we stopped at the gas station to get some more ice. Finally, we were off to Pevely.

We got down to the camp about the time everyone was trying to figure out where their sleeping spot would be. So, we walked into chaos. Yipee! LOL! All in all it got arranged. It was not as painful as it could be. There were over 30 people in that one room lodge. That's a lot of people sleeping together.

August 26, 2010

Gosh, it feels like it's been a long week and then again it feels like it is speeding by. Time is just really strange I think.

To be honest, I am not looking forward to this weekend. This weekend is GS Camp weekend. I don't want to go. I mean I REALLY don't want to go. But, it's for Michaela and not for me.

There is one person in particular that I do not want to be around. And, two others that I like to be around, but on the other hand I have a hard time feeling like I fit in with them anymore. It's just going to be very stressful. Plus, I'm pouting about not getting to go to Monmouth and see my aunt and go to the family reunion. I wanted to go so badly. A lot of the people that will be there I've not seen since my grandfather's funeral in May of 1992.

August 25, 2010

Today would have been my dad's 66th birthday. It is still really hard to believe he's gone sometimes. I still miss him. But, life goes on.

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

August 24, 2010

We had our staff meeting at the Pine Lawn community center again. It's going to get old going there. It would be nice to stay at our own building once in a while. I don't think we're going to be able to do that for a few weeks, though. Oh, well, it's not totally horrible. It's nice to see the people from Pine Lawn there. I really like them all.

On the other hand I was really exhausted when I got home. Michael had to pick up Caleb because there was no way I could get to Caleb, get home and fed before he had to be at practice. So, Michael picked him up and made sure he and Michaela were fed.

I spent the evening working on things for work. I am really glad it is time to go to bed.

Monday, August 23, 2010

August 23, 2010

Work seemed to go well today. I still have 18 students. I keep wondering if the other four students on my list are going to show up. One of them I am pretty sure is not going to show up. His teacher from last year said that this child's mother said they would be moving. So, maybe the other three will show up.

Caleb had his first day at Latch Key today. It was nice knowing he was there this afternoon and not having to be picked up by his grandparents. I don't know what we would do without them, but I don't like it when they have to do so much. They deserve to just enjoy their retirement.

Michael is now helping to coach the football team. Caleb is loving it and I think Michael is enjoying it too. I think it is good for both of them. I'm kinda proud of both my boys.

Sunday, August 22, 2010

August 22, 2010

I slept in this morning. I really needed to just have some rest time. I had a lot I needed to get done for work and some laundry to finish. So, we did not go to church either.

I liked being home all day. I don't want to do this every Sunday, but it was nice to have one where I did not have to go anywhere.

Saturday, August 21, 2010

August 21, 2010

I have not felt good most of the day. I've had a really bad headache. I've tried to get some things done for work, but I didn't accomplish as much as I had hoped.

I did get a little bit of house cleaning done. The kids did their jobs, too. Michael worked outside a lot today.

This evening Michael and the kids went to the Festival of the Little Hills. It sounds like they had fun. It was kind of nice to have a little bit of quiet time to myself.

Friday, August 20, 2010

August 20, 2010

I'm so glad it's Friday. It has been a very long and exhausting week. I wish I could just relax ALL weekend, but I have a lot I need to get done for work.

There were storms in town today. They managed to knock down part of a tree a couple houses down from us. The house is empty so there is not telling how long it will be before it gets cleaned up. It's all over the driveway and blocking the front door.

Our garden was messed up. Micheal had to tie up the tomato baskets. Our electricity was out when we got home, too. It came back on around 5:30. I was convinced it would be out most of the night. I'm glad I was wrong.

We went to Pasta House for dinner tonight. It was really good. I had some left over so I can take it in my lunch next week. YUM!

We drove past the river front this evening. Festival of the Little Hills started today. They closed them down early tonight, though because a couple more storms are coming through. It's starting to thunder already. I wouldn't mind if it stormed all night. I love sleeping when it's storming. Heck, I love storms anyway.

August 20, 2010

It's the end of the first full week of work. I am really tired and really glad it is over. I just want to go to bed and sleep for a week. But, I don't think that is going to happen. I'm glad we don't really have anything planned this weekend.

Thursday, August 19, 2010

August 19, 2010

Gosh, it seems like it's been a very long week. I kept thinking today was Friday. I got another student today, but then I lost one, too. It seems one of my little girls did not finish KG last year so they put her back in KG. That kind of bummed me out. I really liked her.

Today, Michael found out that they are not re-scheduling the last baseball games so baseball is over. Since Caleb's last swim class was last night, he now can focus on just football. Michaela does not start swim practice until the middle of September, so we have a few more weeks before we are completely busy. Part of me is looking forward to it and part of me is dreading it.

The kids scared me to death today. They were not home when I got home. Their book bags were here, but they were not. I panicked. I called Michael's parents and they did not know where they were. I went down to get in the van and noticed their bicycles were gone so I figured I would head to Anikca's first. But, before I could get out of the driveway, I saw them coming from that direction. I think I've made my point now that they are NOT TO LEAVE THE HOUSE until Michael and/or I get home.

Michaela and I went to do the grocery shopping while Michael and Caleb were at football practice tonight. I really hate that job. Of course, Thursday nights are the busiest nights at the grocery store. It wasn't too crowded, but people just stop and block the isles and don't even bother to move when they see someone who wants to come down the isle. It's very frustrating. I'm glad it's over. I think though we do need to get in the habit of going to the grocery store on Wednesdays instead of Tuesdays, since come the end of September we'll have football and swim practice on Tuesdays.

Wednesday, August 18, 2010

August 18, 2010

Well, the 2010-2011 school year has begun for my students. I had 17 students show up today. I've never had that many students show up on the first day of school. I thought that was really cool. I am so happy so many showed up on the first day.

It was very hectic in the morning, though because we had to get to the room and turn right around and go to music and some how I had to take attendance even though I do not know them yet. Boy was that stressful, but we made it through it. There is a possibility that once we get into a routine, it may not be too bad having planning first thing in the morning. I just have to completely change my mind set and put some thought into our schedule.

It was a pretty good day all around. I like the way we are doing lunch time now. We have 45 minute lunch periods and teachers spend 15 minutes of that time on duty. I think it will make the lunch room and playground much nicer places. That is if everyone does duty the way it should be done. We'll see. I know the two teachers I do duty with will work at keeping the students under control.

Tonight was Caleb's last night of swim classes. I told him he could start again in January, but for now, football is enough. He was a little upset because his teacher recommended he stay in Guppy Plus. But, only one child in his class was recommended to move up to Minnow. Caleb said she made fun of the rest of them. I told him to ignore her. Some day someone will do the same to her and she'll realize that it hurts.

Tuesday, August 17, 2010

August 17, 2010

Today was our last day at work before students come to school. We the whole morning until 12:30 in a staff meeting. So far I do really like our principal. It seemed like a productive meeting, I just wish it hadn't taken so long.

I went with some co-workers to Oscar's for lunch. I don't think I'll go there anymore. Both times I've been there, they've been incredibly slow. It made me late for an appointment I had with my new principal.

I just wanted to talk with her one on one for a short time to just get to know each other a little more. I enjoyed our talk. I think we got a better feel for each other. I am nervous, anxious and a little excited for her to visit my classroom. I hope whatever is going on when she comes in is fun to watch.

I did not get my classroom done as well as I would like, but it is presentable for students. I'm a little stressed that my planning period is first thing in the morning this year. I will have to figure out how to make it work because I understand that we all have to have our turn at crappy planning period times. This year is my turn. I'm sure I can figure out how to make it work, but I wish I didn't have to.

I was at work until 6:00 p.m. tonight. Then, I went to the park to get Michaela. We went out to O'Fallon to get her clarinet. I plan on making sure she practices more than she did with her violin. After all, now it's for a grade. I hope she continues to enjoy it.

Monday, August 16, 2010

August 16, 2010

We had some in service meetings today at work. We had to be at the high school for the meetings. I am not sure what the point was of either of the meetings, but I did enjoy at least some of the time. I really could have used that time in my room, though. I'm really not sure how I'm going to get my room done before Wednesday morning.

I stayed at work until 5:30 tonight. I would have stayed longer, but the custodians threw me out. They wanted to go home. So, I left.

I had to pick Michaela up from the park. She was there with Michael and Caleb for football practice. Michael is helping to coach this year. I just love how he gets involved.

I thought maybe Michaela and I would go to get her clarinet tonight, but she had forgotten to bring her supply list for it home from school. So, I guess we'll go get it tomorrow night. She has to have it by Wednesday.

August 15, 2010

Today was the retirement service for Pastor Arle. He has been with our church for 25 years. It is hard to believe it's been that long. I was 16 when he came to our church. He's done a lot for our church. It's going to be very strange not having him standing at the pulpit.

The service was very good and the church was PACKED. It was great to see so many people there to honor him. I'm very sad he will not be our pastor anymore, but I also realize that he has earned his retirement. I hope he and his wife are able to have many years of happy times in retirement.

The meal was very good, too. A lot of people put a lot of work into it. There were over 400 people there for the luncheon but there was still TONS of food left over. They did a very good job with the program, too. It was a nice day.

August 15, 2010

I really enjoyed church today. We went to my church. There was only one service. It was as special service because our pastor is retiring. He's been with our church for 25 years. Everyone loves him. He's just really an amazing man.

The church was PACKED. I haven't seen it that packed since I don't know when. It was so cool seeing all those people there. They had over 400 people there.

There was a luncheon program after church today. They had a slide show, pictures, people speaking, letters that were written, gifts for the pastor and his wife. It was really a touching, emotional day. The food was GREAT, too. There was so much of it that even though there were over 400 people there was still tons of it left. I am really glad we went. It was a great day.

When we got home I got to work on laundry. The kids and I cleaned the house too. It doesn't take as long when we all work together on it. I've also been working on lesson plans for the first couple weeks of school.

Michael made hamburgers and hot-dogs for supper tonight. We also had baked beans, cucumbers, tomatoes, apples and chips. It was a really good supper and nice that I didn't have to do much to prepare it.

Saturday, August 14, 2010

August 14, 2010

Today did not start out the way we had anticipated. Caleb was supposed to have his last baseball game today. They were going to have a double header starting at 8:00 a.m. But, it stormed like crazy last night and the ball fields were too wet to play on this morning.

I did not feel well this morning so I skipped my water aerobics class. But, I did take Michaela to the Y for her swim class. It is the last one she will have. Next week we will be at girl scout camp when it's time for swim class. Her teacher won't be there any way.

Michael took Caleb to the doctor because he's had this rash for over a week that we cannot get rid of. Turns out he has a strep infection. He was given a steroid to take for five days. They also went to the DMV so Michael could get his motorcycle licensed finally.

Then, we took the van up to have it inspected. Turns out since it's not 5 years old yet it only needs emissions and not safety inspection. That only took about an hour and then we could go get it. While we waited we ate Taco Bell.

This afternoon, Michael and Caleb went to football weigh ins. Michaela and I went shopping with Gale.

We started at JC Penney. Michaela got a long sleeved henley, two button down blouses, and a short sleeved t-shirt while we were there. Next, we went to The Children's Place. My MIL bought Caleb two pairs of Jeans and two long sleeved shirts from there. Then, we went to Justice. Michaela actually had a hard time finding something there, but she finally found a really cute skort and a short sleeved shirt to go with it. Finally, we went to Sears. Michaela got a Bobby Jack long sleeved t-shirt and a Bobby Jack jacket at Sears. It was fun shopping with both of them.

This evening we went to Red Robin for supper. It was good. It's been a while since we went there. I really enjoyed it.

After we ate we went back to the mall. The jeans I'd picked out for Caleb were a size too big. We stopped in JC Penney first and got Caleb a sweat shirt and a long sleeve dress shirt. Then, we went back to The Children's Place and exchanged his jeans.

Then we came home. I changed the sheets on the bed and got laundry started. I've been listening to "Life as We Knew It" on audio book. I've really enjoyed it. I started listening to the companion book to it called "The Dead and Gone." I hope it's as good as the first one.

Friday, August 13, 2010

August 13, 2010

It's Friday the 13th, but it was not a bad day. It was actually a pretty good day. We got to work in our classrooms all day today. I've never been given a whole day at once to work in my classroom. I think I got a lot done. I still have a long ways to go, but having the entire day did A LOT to ease the stress of beginning of the year stuff, especially since I didn't have any time to work in my classroom before we got back to work.

I left right at 3:30 today. It's Friday and I just refuse to stay late on a Friday. I will probably stay late both Monday and Tuesday, though. I just want to make sure the room is completely ready for when my students come in on Wednesday. That means the kids will need to go to their grandparents' house after school, but I don't think that will be a problem.

Tonight we went to Applebee's for supper. It was really hot in there. I don't think their air conditioner was working right. The poor managers looked miserable and I bet the people in the kitchen were miserable, too.

After we ate we went to get McDonald's gift cards for the baseball team. We also got goody bags, bouncy balls and glow sticks. It's just a special treat for the end of the season since we really don't have time to take them out for pizza or anything.

Thursday, August 12, 2010

August 12, 2010

We had inservice meetings today. It wasn't too bad. Those of us in K-2nd only had meetings in the morning, so we got to work in our rooms some this afternoon. One of my co-workers and I made up a supply list to hand out this afternoon/evening at "Meet the Teacher Night," so I didn't get a whole lot done in my room, but I did get some things done.

I had about 4 parents show up for "Meet the Teacher Night." I hope that is not any indication on how many students are going to show up for school. I have 19 on my list. I hope they all show up. I have a feeling high numbers is going to be important this school year.

Michaela did not have problems with the bus today. But, she and Caleb both went to their grandparents' house because I had to be at work until 5:30. Michael picked them up and went to the park with them. Caleb had football practice because the ball diamonds where they practice for baseball were too wet to have practice.

I picked Michaela up from the park and we came home. I have a feeling this fall is going to be like this a lot, but that's ok, being busy is not a bad thing.

It was back to school and back to work for the kids and me today. I cannot believe summer break is over already. I have mixed feelings about it being over this year. Part of me is actually ready for the "normalcy" of the school year, but of course I always miss having the days with my kids.

Michaela is catching the bus from home this year. For the first few days her grandparents are coming over to help her get used to the routine, but then she will be on her own to get herself on the bus in the mornings. It will come about 45 minutes after Caleb and I leave in the morning. Then, in the afternoons she'll be home by herself for about an hour before Caleb and I get there.

This morning she missed the bus. I guess they were standing on the wrong side of the street. Why the bus driver couldn't stop and ask them if they were waiting for him, I don't know. It's the first day, it's normal for people to be confused, but whatever. That's why we had her grandparents with her. She also had some confusion getting off the bus. I'm sure it'll be better tomorrow, though.

Caleb will be going to latch key this year, but again I waited too long to get him signed up and have to wait until the day after school starts to get his paperwork turned into the Y. That is frustrating, but it's partially my fault, so we'll just deal with it. In any case what this means is when everything is running the way it is supposed to run, I'll pick Caleb up from latch key and just be able to come home from there most days. I won't have to go to two different places to get my kids in the afternoons.

Work was ok today. They had our all district meeting (the convocation as it is called now) very first thing instead of waiting until the last day of our week of meetings. I like that idea. I think it's better having it first instead of last.

We met our new principal today, too. So far she seems o.k. I have a positive feeling in my gut about her personally. I'm not sure I have a positive feeling about the teachers at Garfield getting to go to the new school, though. Maybe I'm paranoid, but if the subtleties of actions and words are being read correctly, it doesn't look promising for us. But, I'm really just planning on going and doing the best I can for my students and letting God take care of the rest.
