January 31, 2009

Gosh, it's hard to believe that 2009 is a month old already. Time to turn the page on the calendar already. Time goes by way too fast.

Today was pretty quiet around here. I did not really do much. This morning I took Abby to the groomer and went to Wal-mart. When we got home I got laundry started and did a couple loads. I also unloaded and re-loaded the dishwasher.

Michael went to work this morning. This afternoon he washed both vehicles. He was much more productive than I was. The kids got to play outside for a while, too.

Tonight we stopped by Michael's brother's house after we went out to eat. They wanted to order Girl Scout cookies. We stayed and talked for a little while. It was not a long visit, but still a nice one. I enjoyed it very much.

January 30, 2009 part 2

Tonight was Caleb's first Pinewood Derby race. Michael and Lloyd have been working really hard with him to get his car built the last few weeks. It is blue with red flames and a black spider on it. He is very proud of it.

They raced against the other boys in their den. Caleb won first place in his den. Then, all the first place cars got to race for the grand championship. Caleb did not win this and was bummed. But, he got a really cool first place trophy for the session he did win. I think he really enjoyed himself. He was thrilled that Grammy and Papa showed up to watch, too.

This is what happened to the people who got lay off notices.

They got to their classrooms with their kids and were all started in their day. All had been in their rooms long enough to have started teaching when the secretary walked in with substitute in tow and lay off notice in hand to tell them they were to go to the high school for the job fair. So, they were served their notice in front of a substitute and their students.

The principals were kept in a principal's meeting at the district office until after lunch time today.

I was not one of the people who got laid off.

January 29, 2009

We were supposed to find out who was getting pink notices today, but at the last minute were told that we would not find out until tomorrow. This whole thing has been handled so poorly. The job fair for those who are getting laid off is in the morning, so I'm not sure how they are planning on doing this. It's very unfair to keep saying, "Oh we're going to tell you something. Oh, wait, no we're not. Oh, yes we, are... no wait, not yet." UGH! Give me a break!!!!

January 28, 2009

We had another snow day today. I got up when Michael left for work this morning and decided to be productive at least for a little while.

I cleaned the kitchen and got the dishes started in the dishwasher. Then, I swept, swiffered and mopped the kitchen floor. I balanced the check book and paid bills. I did two loads of laundry and changed the sheets on both the kids' beds. I feel like I actually accomplished something. It felt good.

Michaela went outside and played in the snow some today. Caleb had a fever today so I did not let him go out. I hope there's no fever tomorrow. I really need him to go to school. I need to be at work to find out what is going on.

January 27, 2009

It was a snow day for the kids and me. They actually called off school last night. We didn't do much this morning. Just kind of lazed around and played video and computer games and such. I also watched some episodes of "The Big Bang Theory." I love that show, it's hilarious.

I took the kids to McDonald's for lunch and then we went to Stacey's. They stayed there for a little while so I could go to my doctor's appointment. I called to get an appointment because I was concerned that I might have a kidney infection.

My doctor seems to think that I have just been dehydrated from being sick with stomach flu and the fact that my intake of fluids has still not gotten back to where it was. I don't have much of an appetite yet, either. But, from what I understand that could still take a few more days. I did have to leave a sample with them so they could check and make sure nothing was going on, but since I don't have a fever and it didn't hurt when he pushed around on my kidneys he doesn't really thing anything is wrong.

I stopped at the grocery store after that and then went back to Stacey's. The roads out in St. Peters were horrible, but in St. Charles, they weren't as bad. The snow/ice had started coming down again so we didn't stick around Stacey's very long. Plus, the kids were ready to leave for some reason.

This evening the kids went out to shovel driveways with Michael. They did ours and two of our neighbors' driveways. By the time they'd finished the neighbors', ours needed it again. The kids had fun being out there with Daddy.

I made them cocoa when they came in and then it was time for them to get ready for bed. Both our school districts have already called off school for tomorrow so we'll be home again.

January 26, 2009

Well, happy freaking Monday! President Obama has supposedly given tons of money to school districts and my district announced today that they are going to lay off 8% of it's employees certified and classified. I do not know if this means 8% of each or all together. We find out who this week and it will be effective as of February 27.

So, they are basically laying teachers off in the middle of the school year when it's impossible to find another position until August. Plus, our contracts specifically state what we are to make for the year so I have no idea how they can break a contract like that. Our superintendent seems to think he can lay off whomever he wants, too. Our union rep says that by Missouri State law he has to go by seniority. We'll see what happens and if our union is willing to finally step up to the plate.

More importantly, we are trying to keep our accreditation and they are going to be shifting classes and students around like crazy after this chaos. How in the world is this what is best for our students? How can someone justify this kind of upheaval and then still expect high test scores? The complete ignorance of people sometimes amazes me, although at this point I'm not sure why it still does amaze me.

Any parents out there that do not understand this yet, listen carefully. Politicians and school board members and most superintendents do not put your children first and these are the people who run your schools. Most of them have no clue as to what it takes to make a classroom work. I have people coming into my classroom who have not served a day with first graders telling me that I am doing things wrong even though I've spent the greater part of the last 16 years with first graders.

You let people with no back ground in education or people who have not been in a classroom for over 20 years make decisions for your children and override the real experts' knowledge. Don't you think it's time to restructure the way we do business in our schools?

You would not allow someone who does not have surgical background to oversee a new surgeon in the operating room. You would not let someone who has no law school training to oversee a new lawyer defending you in court. You would not even allow someone who's not had proper training to clean your teeth, yet you allow people who do not have any experience in the classroom make decisions for your child's educational well being.

The old adage, "Those who can't, teach." is dead wrong. If it were true than anyone could survive in a classroom and there would be no need for teacher certification or special degrees in order to become a teacher.

January 25, 2009

Well, I seem to be a little better today. I feel weak and shaky, but my nausea is gone. I still don't have an appetite. I did not eat breakfast. But, I did eat some very watered down noodle soup from a package with some oyster crackers. However, I did not feel like eating supper. Michael took the kids down to Stefanina's for a late supper.

The reason they went for a late supper is because the kids went next door to play with Hannah. At 5:00 Michaela called to see if they could eat supper over there. I said ok. My mom called and wanted to come over and I told her between 6:30 and 7:00 thinking that would give enough time. Usually this would mean my mom would be here closer to 7:00. Well, of course tonight she got here at 6:30.

I was on the phone with the next door neighbor when she rang the doorbell. The kids were just getting ready to sit down to eat, but I needed them to come home right then as my mom was here to give Caleb his birthday present. So, they did not get to eat with their friend.

Caleb got Sonic Chronicles for DS and a loaf of banana bread from my mom and Griff. Earlier in the day Michael's parents came over to give him their gift. They gave him a Transformer and CARS for DS. We also finally cut his birthday cake, so he basically had a birthday weekend and not just a day. But, that's ok. I want him to know that his birth was very special for all of us.

January 24, 2009

Happy Birthday to my Bugga Boo!!!! Caleb is 7 years old today. I cannot believe he's 7 already. He's getting so big so fast. I feel so badly because I woke up with a really bad stomach ache and soon realized it was stomach flu, so I've not gotten to spend much time with him today.

I did watch him open his presents. He was very happy with them. I love watching him open gifts, his face gets so animated. He just amazes me so much.

Other than that I've not been able to move from the bed except during those times I had to run to the bathroom. And, I've not let him or Michaela come in this room. I really do not want either of them getting this. It's been horrible. I hate being sick.

Michael is a wonderful Daddy, though. He's played with them this afternoon some before he went out to take care of some leaves and stuff in the yard. Then, this afternoon, Caleb's friend came over and Michael took all three kids to Incredible Pizza to celebrate Caleb's birthday. It sounds like they had a lot of fun. I hate that I could not go.

When they got back, Caleb's friend stuck around for another half hour or so playing Wii with Caleb. I know they had fun because when it was time for Chase to go home, he did not want to go. I am so glad they had a good time.

I think my stomach is starting to calm down tonight. I hope this means it's over and I'll be better tomorrow. I just wish the fever would go away. I hate feeling like this. I have not been able to keep my eyes open for more than 20 minutes or so at a time today.

We did not get to cut Caleb's cake today. We'll do that tomorrow. My mom and Michael's parents will come over tomorrow and give Caleb their presents from them tomorrow, too.

January 23, 2009

It's been a long day. But, for the most part it's been a good day. Work went well and nothing negative happened there. I am very satisfied with the day at work.

Tonight I went out with friends. Melissa and I took Stacey out for a belated birthday outing. We went to El Maguey for mexican food. It was a nice dinner. I really enjoyed what I ordered. It was a quesadilla with cheese and mushrooms.

After eating supper we went to the movies. We went to see Bride Wars. It was a fun movie. I really liked it. We all enjoyed it.

When we got back to Stacey's house I showed her a few things on Facebook because it was a little confusing to her. That was fun, too.

When I left Stacey's I had to go to Schnucks because I'm a terrible mom and had not gotten cards or a cake for Caleb's birthday yet. I found a card to him from Michael and I and one to him from Michaela. Then, I was able to find a decent cake for him that did NOT have flowers all over it.

Then, I came home to find that his presents were not wrapped. So, I wrapped his presents. Three of them I just put into gift bags, so it wasn't like it took too long. I also used some tube frosting I had in the cupboard to put Caleb's name on his cake.

January 22, 2009

This seems like it's been a really long week. Sometimes, these four day weeks last longer than a regular week. I just cannot seem to shake this feeling of being VERY tired, this week. I've been trying to watch LOST from last night and Supernatural tonight, but I just have not been able to keep my eyes open. I am just really glad tomorrow is Friday.

January 21, 2009

Tonight Michael and I went shopping for Caleb's birthday presents. The boy is only 7 and he's already getting difficult to buy presents for. I didn't really want to buy him anymore Hotwheels or Matchbox play sets. He has so many already and only plays with about half of them. He doesn't need a new bicycle at this point.

We did get him Super Mario Brothers for his DS because he's always wanting to play Michaela's and she's very stingy about letting him use it. We could have gotten him another DS game, but I didn't think that was necessary. I remember he said a while back he wanted a skate board, so we found him a junior size skate board that has Sponge Bob skull and cross bones on it.

His radio in his room has a broken CD player in it, so we bought him a new radio/CD player to replace the broken one. Then, we also got him a Little League Baseball game for Wii. I hope he's happy with it all.

Oh, and I also have a Leapster game I bought him a while back that I've not given him yet. It's from a cartoon that's on cartoon network where this little boy has imaginary friends, or something. I don't understand it, but Michaela and Caleb watch it and like it.

He is having his first sleep over on his birthday, too. We'll probably take them out to eat somewhere. Hopefully, I'll have enough energy to suggest we take them to Incredible Pizza. I think they'd like that.

January 20, 2009

Well, this afternoon was interesting. Today was the day I was supposed to go to traffic court for the ticket I got on the day I was rear ended. I got a ticket because I'd forgotten to put my new insurance card in my van. I'd asked the cop who was there how to take care of it early and he kept telling me I didn't have a choice, that I HAD to go to court.

Michael and I both tried to look up how much the court costs were going to be because even though I could prove I had insurance I knew I'd have to pay for the court costs. Neither of us could find how much it would be so I decided to call St. Peters Municipal Court to find out.

That's when they told me I didn't have to go to court, that I could take care of it before hand. Well, great, but tonight is my court date. They tell me they are there until 4:00 pm. I am supposed to be at work until 3:45 and in no way could I get from work to St. Peters City Hall in 15 minutes. So, I tell my principal I have to leave early and split my class up for the last half hour of the day and leave work.

When I get to city hall, I see the sign says they are there until 5:00 pm. Well, thank you very much! But, at least I got there before they closed the windows.

When it was my turn she says she has to check my file and hinted that I might have to go to court after all. Ok, I really was starting to get annoyed. When she checked the file she asked me, "So, you were the third car?"

I said, "Yes I was the front one" because I assumed when she was looking at it that she would know there were only three cars involved.

She says, "Oh you were the front car?" and I said, "Yes."

So then she proceeds to tell me that there was no reason for the cop to tell me I had to go to court. The only reason I would have had to go to court was if there were a question as to whether I was at fault for the accident. Um, NO I was just sitting waiting for the car in front of me to turn left and then all of the sudden BAM I got rear ended because the van behind me was shoved into me because she was hit from behind.

So, she tells me it's a $12.00 processing fee and the ticket is dismissed. I hand over my $12.00 and say thank you very much and leave. I'm so glad that is taken care of but I am exhausted tonight. That was very stressful to me.

January 19, 2009

It's MLK Day so I did not have to go to work. I spent four hours this morning working on reconciling the bank statement. I hate that job. But, it's done and everything is up to date and bills for the week are paid. It always feels good to have the bills paid.

I've also worked on grading papers and did some more laundry. I swear I could do two to three loads of laundry a day and still never get caught up. I did not get to some of the other things I wanted to do because the bank statement took so long, but at least I got some things accomplished today.

Tonight was gymnastics night. I'm thinking about looking at different places for Michaela to do gymnastics. I'm really not thrilled with the place she's going anymore. They seem to cater to the cheerleaders. I have to sit on a wooden floor or stand for 80 minutes if I want to see Michaela well while she's in class. I think that's just stupid.

Tonight I did not have to cook. Michael made a pot of chili yesterday afternoon and it was ready for supper tonight. I love it when he does that. All I had to do was put it on the stove to warm it up. It was really good. I like Michael's chili especially since it means I don't have to cook.

January 18, 2009

Not much going on today, just church, eating out at Hatfield's and McCoy's, laundry, grading papers, watching football.

I am VERY VERY VERY happy that Arizona is going to the Super Bowl! I love Kurt Warner and am so happy he gets to try at another championship. I'm not real thrilled at the fact they have to play Pittsburgh, but hey, people have been saying through out the whole of the playoffs that Arizona didn't have a chance, so it would be great to see Arizona win the Super Bowl, too. We'll see in a couple weeks.

January 17, 2009

It was a busy day today. This morning was pretty normal. I really didn't do anything. I tried to get myself motivated to do some things, but I just couldn't. I played around online and read a little bit. It was nice.

Michael and the kids were gone until lunch time. Michael and Caleb are working on Caleb's pinewood derby car for cub scouts. They went over to Michael's parents' house so Michael's dad could help too. Michaela went with them to see Grammy and take her cookie order form with her.

This afternoon we were at church. The older preacher is retiring after 60 years in the ministry. They had a program for him with cake, cookies and punch afterwards. It was nice. The church was packed.

This evening Michaela and I went to a skate party. It was the cookie kick off for girl scouts. There were TONS of people there. I think it's the best turn out they've ever had for that. It was fun. The girls really enjoy the skating and I enjoy talking to the other moms that were there.

So, now we are into cookie sales. We have a couple weeks to gather orders before we have to turn in the order form. But, even after that we can get more if we really need to from the cookie pantry.

January 16, 2009

It was a rough day at work. Actually it's been a rough week at work. I don't know what's gotten into my students, but their behavior has been horrendous this week. I was even calling parents of students I've never had to talk to before. A lot of the teachers in my building were complaining of the same thing. I hope it was just an off week and my good students will be back on Tuesday.

I'm very glad it's Friday and that we have a three day weekend this week. I am just emotionally and physically exhausted because I feel like all I did today was fuss and kids. I hate that feeling. I don't like to fuss at them. I am going to try to rest emotionally as much as possible this weekend so that I can focus on doing what I can to help them get back on track next week.

January 15, 2009

Today is my mom's 60th birthday. She was able to take the day off work and just spend time on herself. I think she enjoyed her day. My brother remembered to call her and I'm really proud of him for that. My aunt in California called her. I even called her before my grandmother called.

Michaela and I took her present to her while Michael and Caleb were at Cub Scouts. We got her "Momma Mia" on Blue Ray. I am hoping sometime we can get Griff to leave for an evening and do a girl's night in watching it together. Michaela and I've seen it, but my mom hasn't yet. It would be great to that and include Karen and maybe a couple other "girls" in the mix.

My mom was very happy with her gift. Michaela and I stayed and visited for a couple hours. It was a nice evening.

Wednesday, January 14, 2009

January 14, 2009

Tonight was girl scout night. The girls worked on their first aid badge. It is a step in the process to them earning their bronze award. They seemed to get a lot out of it. I don't think I've ever seen them all sit that quietly. Well, at least while I was there.

I went and did some shopping while Michaela was at girl scouts. I only needed a couple things but I took some time to just wander around. It's nice to not feel rushed and not have to focus too much on anything.

Michaela got her cookie order form tonight. We are supposed to start selling on Saturday. They got rid of the All Abouts and got two new cookies. One is a lemon creme sandwich cookie and the other is a hard sugar type cookie with caramel chips and stripes. I don't like lemon sandwich cookies but the other one tastes ok. I'm not real fond of hard cookies, but I bet they'd be great dunked in milk or hot chocolate.

January 13, 2009

I stayed home from work today. I have not felt great since this weekend, but have been trying to ignore it. This morning I couldn't ignore it anymore. My stomach has just been really messed up all day. I think I'm a little better as of now. At least I hope I am. Thank goodness for email because that meant I could turn in my report cards even though I did not go to work. I had to send a lot of email this morning.

Email to Caleb's teacher to tell her I'd pick him up. Email to Little Guppy to tell them not to pick up Caleb. Email to Vicky to tell her I'd pick up Michaela after violin lessons. Email to my principal and to our secretary to tell them I'd not be there today. Email to sub system to make sure they sent a sub to take my class today.

I hope I'm well enough to go to work tomorrow. I just cannot afford to stay home again tomorrow. We have too much we need to get done this week in class.

Monday, January 12, 2009

January 12, 2009

It was a pretty good day today. Work went smoothly and I was able to get enough done to feel a sense of accomplishment. So, that always makes the day a good day.

Tonight was Michaela's SOAR night. They do two of these a year to show off what they've been working on during the semester. She had a bank she'd made out of recycled stuff. It was very creative. She had also worked with a group of three other students earlier in the year to design and build a building.

Her group built a recreation complex. They did a really great job on it. Michaela and her best friend Anikca also worked on a video about recycling, but her SOAR teachers could not find it on the server to bring it up. So, they are going to burn it to CD and send it home because it sounds like it only got saved to the computer in the classroom and not on the server.

It was very crowded at the school where this was held. Michael's parents came up to see what Michaela had worked on. She really enjoyed that. She was uspet about her video not being on display, though. I felt badly for her.

My 40th Birthday

Wow, that is mind boggling to me. How in the world does time go by so fast? I'm not at all upset about reaching 40. I think each birthday is a victory. I would much rather be here to celebrate the birthday and "get old" than to not be here. Although, I don't see 40 as being old. I don't understand why so many people do think of it as old.

It's been a great birthday, too. Since becoming an adult birthdays do get to be quite as exciting as when we are kids. My family still makes me feel special on that day, but of course it's not like when we are kids. But, this year it was awesome. It started Friday night, the 10th.

Michael planned a surprise party for me and I was surprised. It is so out of his nature to plan a surprise party, but yet he did. It was amazing for him to do that for me. I've always wanted someone to plan a surprise party for me. He went to a lot of trouble, too. He got my mom involved and his parents involved. He spent about a month planning it, too.

The best part for me was he managed to get my side of the family AND his side of the family (all of them) in the same place at once. That has not happened ever, I don't think. There's always been someone missing. That meant more to me than anyone really understands. I literally burst into tears when I walked into the house.

There were also a couple of my friends that I just adore here with their families. It really meant so much to have them all here for me. Everyone really seemed to enjoy themselves, too. Kelly and Jeremy even spent part of the evening they had set aside to celebrate their anniversary to be here with me.

Then, on Sunday the 11th (my actual birthday) we went out to lunch with Michael's parents. We went to Olive Garden. They gave me my gift there. It was a very nice lunch. I've had to do a lot of work for work today and do laundry, but I don't even mind that I had to spend my birthday doing that.

My gifts were: two more Terry Goodkind books, My Sims Kingdom for Wii, Breakfast Club on DVD, iTunes GC, Borders GC, GC for pedicure, a small bendable tri-pod for my camera, a set of 4 colored rhinestone earrings, flowers, and an assortment of really funny gag gifts. I love the people in my life.

January 10, 2008

It is Saturday and I should be working on stuff for work, but I really am just very tired. I feel better than I did last night, but still not great. I wish I could have a couple days to myself, completely to myself. I mean, with no one around at all. I would love to be able to go away and just be by myself and not have to hear anyone. But, only for a couple days.

My grandma sent me a birthday card that I really like. In it she wrote a list of things that she experienced the year she was 40. It's really cool. Of course the first thing she wrote was being a grandma for the first time. Most of the time I cannot comprehend how my kids are growing up so fast, but to have your first born grandchild turning 40 must really be mind boggling. It also means her first born child is getting ready to turn 60. I hope that time does not come too fast for me. Especially since I'll be 90 when my first born turns 60!

The kids are going over to Michael's parents' house tonight. I guess they decided to let Michael and I have an evening together so we could go out for my birthday just the two of us. Or, maybe they just wanted the kids. It doesn't matter, it will be nice to be out without the kids for a while. I wish I'd have had the gumption to arrange at least a small get together to celebrate my birthday, but I just didn't have the energy and besides, planning your own party is not a whole lot of fun.

January 9, 2009

I do not feel well today. I think I'm getting a sinus infection. I hope not, but it sure feels like it. I feel a little better since I got home and took some tylenol and drank some hot tea. I hope tomorrow is better. I don't want to be sick.

Michaela got a citizenship award today at school. Caleb got a perfect attendance award. Their school had their red carpet assembly. This is where they give out their awards for the quarter. Michaela should have an honor roll award, too. She made straight A's this quarter. Looking at her percentages, she may have straight A's for the semester.

January 8, 2008

Tonight was Michaela's violin concert at school. Actually, it was the Christmas program that they were supposed to do before Christmas but couldn't because of the weather. But, the 4th graders that joined the strings class also performed.

The orchestra went first. They did pretty good. Most of them play violin. One boy plays cello. They did about four songs. I was impressed that they did as well as they did. They've only been playing since the end of Septermber and go twice a week for half hour sessions.

After the orchestra, the 3rd and 4th grade did the Christmas program. It was really cute. It was actually about all the holidays in December. The kids did a great job! I enjoyed it very much.

January 7, 2009

I watched "Love Comes Softly" tonight. It's a Hallmark movie. It is a very good movie. It's a love story so it's a little gushy, kind of. Caleb came in the room at one point and wanted to know what I was watching. I told him and then told him it was lovey dovey stuff. He got all grossed out and I tickled him and said, "Oh you know you wanna watch it. You wanna see all the mushy kissing stuff."

*LOL* He was so funny going "ewweee, yuck!" He's such a boy. I love it!

January 6, 2008

I did not go to work today. My district and the district I live in both called off school today. There was a nasty sheet of ice on the roads. They closed ramps to the highways all over St. Louis, too. I really had not wanted a "snow day" again yet. But, I guess I got an unexpected day off. It gave the kids an extra day for their Winter Break.

We didn't really do anything. The kids played Wii and on their Nintendo DS's most of the day. It was too cold to go outside. I messed around on the Internet (mostly Facebook) and watched LOST. I also read a little bit. That's basically been my day.

Monday, January 5, 2009

January 5, 2009

It was back to work for me today. I had three students absent. It was a pretty productive day for us, though. I was proud of myself and my class. We jumped right back into our routine and for the most part they were pretty good about it. It was one of the smoothest transitions back after Winter Break that I've ever had.

Michaela and Caleb stayed with their grandparents today. They went swimming at the YMCA and ate lunch at Applebee's. It sounds like they spent the rest of the day playing games and messing around with their Nintendo DS's.

This evening we were supposed to have ham and beans for supper, but I forgot to turn the crock pot down and they burned. The kids ate their Kid Cuisine meals. I had to take Michaela to gymnastics so I grabbed Wendy's while she was having her lesson. I got Arby's for Michael on the way home.

While Michaela and I were at gymnastics, Michael's brother came over. Michael had taken our nephew's mp3 player to work to solder some parts on it. His brother came over to get that and to help Michael with our home network some more. My laptop can now finally see the hard drive on the desk top computer. They also got the Wii and both of the kids' DS's hooked up to the WiFi. Michael and Caleb were racing other people from other countries on the Wii playing Mario Cart when we got home.

I'm hoping tonight I sleep better than last night. I always seem to be restless the night before going back to work after a break. But, I'm really tired tonight so hopefully, that will help me sleep well.

January 4, 2008

It's been pretty much a normal Sunday around here. The kids came home from my mom's house around 10:00 am. We all got ready and went to church. After church we took Michael's mom and dad out to eat at The Pasta House. We stopped by Michael's brother's house to get something that Michael is going to try to fix for our nephew.

Then, we came home. I've been doing laundry and just relaxing most of the day. The kids played with their DS's and other toys today. It was a laid back sort of day. Michael has been working on the computer doing stuff for work most of the afternoon and evening.

I even just went and got DQ for supper because I did not feel like cooking. I have a pot of beans on to slow cook all night, though so we can have Ham 'n Beans for supper tomorrow night.

The kids have one more day off school tomorrow, but I have to go back to work. I can't say I'm looking forward to it, but I'm not dreading it the way I usually do. I'm glad for that. Considering how rough this year has been so far, I'm not feeling near as resistant to going back as I thought I would. I'll be glad to be on the second half of the school year.

January 3, 2009

Michael has not felt very good today. He spent most of the afternoon napping. He did go out and get his allergy shot this morning, but other than that he's not done much.

I took the kids to my mom late this afternoon. Michael and I went and had supper at Trailhead. We got our favorite nachos there. It was nice to go out and eat without the kids. We've not been able to do that much lately.

After we ate we went out to Michael's work. He needed to turn the computer servers back on so he can log on from home to do some work. I wandered around while he did this and then we came home.

We've had a quiet night at home. I've been reading for most of it. Now, I'm going to go to bed.

January 2, 2009

It was another day at home. The kids and I did not go anywhere. We did however watch two movies this afternoon. I introduced them to Gremlins. Some of the parts grossed them out, but they enjoyed it. Then, we watched Nim's Island. It was a really cute movie. Michaela got it for Christmas and she's very pleased with it.

This evening the kids and I played Raving Rabbids together. It was a lot of fun. They get so goofy about it. I love spending time like that with my kids. It's one of the good things about them getting older.

They did spend time outside today, too. They rode their bicycles for a while and spent a little time with a friend outside. They needed to get out of the house. We've been lucky because it's been warm enough that they've been able to do that on two different days this week.

January 1, 2009

Another new year has begun. I'm not feeling completely perky today. I'm tired from very little sleep and my stomach has been rumbling all night long with gas. But, we had nothing to do today and that's what I did, nothing.

It was a nice quiet day at home. Michael took the lights down outside so now even the outside of our house does not look like Christmas anymore. I always feel a little empty when it's all taken down, but this year doesn't seem to be as bad.

I am having a hard time believing that it's been 10 years since I was pregnant with Michaela. In less than 6 months she will be 10 years old. It seems like just yesterday I was having problems getting pregnant.

New Year's Eve 2008

Happy New Year!!!!

Today I finished the cleaning around the house. I also helped Michaela with her Easy Bake oven. We had to go get a light bulb for it. But, we needed toilet paper, anyway. She made a cake with her oven. She's very proud of it.

We also went to Best Buy to get Wii Play. We needed another remote and since that game is only $10 more than a remote and comes with a remote, I decided to get it. The kids took their money and each bought a new DS game. I also got another nun chuck and red sleeves for both the remote and the nun chuck. And, I got a case for my cell phone. They have clear ones at Best Buy that are a lot cheaper than the ones that Sprint sells for my phone.

My mom, her guy, my brother and his wife came over to celebrate New Year's with us. My SIL brought her new laptop that she got for Christmas. It's very nice. She's happy with it. We had a table full of munchies and ate a lot. We also played Wii most of the evening. It was a good night. I enjoyed it very much.
